Help, Need Information about Tall Spindles!

Hello:

I have the ATS Spindles. (They are great and I wish I didn't have to change them)

I think I need a tall spindle that will work with the original camaro disk brakes.

I do not want to go to a 2 inch dropped Tall Spindle.

I have some Killer PS Engineering Mini-lite Wheels for my 69 Camaro for a Vintage "Trans Am" Look. They look Great and I want to use them.

Wilwood Makes a Brake kit (140-7019-DR) that will work with these wheels, have a 6 Piston Calipers, 13 inch Cross drilled, Zinc Washed Two Piece Rotors.

Unfortunately, I need to use a different spindle for Now as the ATS won't work. DAMN!

Who makes the best Tall Spindle that will work with the OEM Disk Brakes?

Wouldn't this also give me the Negative Camber increase, that you normally get with the Tall Spindles?

Also, Ball joint Recommendations? (Howe?)

I will also want to eventually drop the ride height down. Is it best to go with a High Quality Dropped Spring, or just change to a Coil over set up?

Please give names of Companies or links if possible of the suppliers.

One last Question. If I decided to run a different front sub frame, which sub frame (Other than the original) would allow me to run the OEM Style Spindles, AND the Wilwood 13 inch OEM replacement Brakes?

I Could then run my Mini-lites AND I guess any other wheels I would want.

True or False?

Running OEM Style Big Brakes allows you to run any Style Wheel you want without worrying about the Caliper offset's that you generally have to measure for. (As long as the disk will fit the wheel) Just measure for the correct Back Space.

First off, you will be using a 140-9803 that replaced the 140-7019. The 140-9803 is a radial mount and has even better caliper to spoke clearance then 140-7019. This is a god thing for you with the problem you have with your wheel clearance.

As for spindles, if you do not want a tall spindle that has drop ion it, you are going to be forced into stock spindles and a G mod. or stock spindles and a tall upper ball joint

As for subframes that use stock spindles, look at Speedtech. This is what we run in Project EmptyNest and we are very happy with it.

I'm not sure what your goals are, but SSBC makes a kit with a 12" rotor that works with ATS spindles and clears a 15" wheel.

I have read on a number of links that the dropped spindles are definitely NOT the way to go if you want to keep the steering geometry in tact.

I'm guessing that information is still valid.

While I'm trying to find the most desirable way to go with this, would you mind sending me a quote regarding the:

To All:

I have read on a number of links that the dropped spindles are definitely NOT the way to go if you want to keep inference away from a wide 17 inch wheel. (I'm Running a 17X8)

Since at Least for now I want to embrace the, "Trans Am", Period of the Camaro, I now have a beautiful set of PSE TA II/Mini-Lites, for this car. (17X8 front with a 245-45-17, "Y" Rated. 17X12 Rear with a 315-35-17)

To run these, I need to run a Radial Mounted Front Brake System. It will be Wilwood 140-9803-DR. This is a configuration like the OEM Disk except a lot bigger.

I have GW Upper and Lower Control Arms, and the front sway Bar they offer. I CAN'T use the ATS Spindles.

I want to use a:

Tall OEM Spindle,
OR,
A Regular height Spindle with Tall Upper Ball Joint to help increase the Negative Camber I had with the ATS Spindle.

Logic tells me regular OEM Spindle and Tall Ball Joint. Is there a better choice?

I want to lower the front end 1-3 inches.

What are my best Choices? (Drop Springs?, Coil Over Conversion?, or what?)

I know this has been discussed in one form or another, however, this is somewhat of a different case as I can't use the C5 Brakes.

The Speedtech is going to be the way to go for you. You can run stock spindles, your arms, and get all the camber gain of a tall spindle. you could G mod you subframe, or tall ball joint your arms and use a stock spindle also.

If you decide you want a quote, I will put something together for the Speedtech getting you the parts you need.

The spindle is not the issue, the brakes are. You need to swap the Wilwoods to the SSBC kit to retain the wheels you have. It is a caliper to wheel clearance problem not a spindle height issue. The best way to fix it is to run a wheel that fits properly, or swap brakes that fit the wheels you already have.
