Some of you may remember that Jim Pettigrew is putting a cup motor in Jimmy Johnson's 67 Camaro. 5 speed with a 21st Century front clip and custom oil tank located in the passenger cowl.

Well the thing is almost complete (new set of rims and tires coming). Hendrick Motorsports detuned the SB2.2 to run on pump gas and changed the cam. It made 720 hp on Hendrick's dyno.

Speaking with Pettigrew, he stated that at 60 mph it turns 3000 rpm and is still a little ragged but not bad. Once past that it pulls like a train from 4000 rpm on. Did I mention the redline on this motor is 9500?

It is not everyday you see a cup motor with an a/c compressor. I am suppose to go for a ride and I will let you know what I think. Of course I am going to love it.

Randy Dorton along with a number of others were killed a few years ago, along with Rick's son.

Very Sad.

Randy was head of Hendrick's motor program. The motor shop built a cup motor and auctioned it off on eBay for a charity in his name. Jimmy bought the motor to put in his 67. The motor is very real along with every braided line, connector and carb. Hendrick motor shop did all of the work and even machined the acc drive...which is a work of art.

Not sure if you can tell, but on the valve covers is his picture, signature and a born and deceased date.

That's a pretty cool tribute!

Nice car too. I'll bet that thing is a handful when you get it wound out!

seen the car yesterday, pretty nice. All Corvette front suspension, leaf springs in the rear. Needs larger wheel/tires and needs to sit better
