I see a ton of manual trannies....TKOs and T56s, and I'm sure they're great. But is there anyone out there running autos....4l60s and 4l80s or even 700r4's? Since I am on a tight budget of about $15-16k (including what I purchase the car for) chances are that I am going to end up finding an auto car (more budget-friendly, of course). I am thinking that I will be backing the 454BB that I already have with an auto instead of a manual tranny. And I don't want to run a TH350/400. I want something for the highway, as I love to put my cars on the road.
So is there anyone running the later model autos (4l60, 4l80, 700r4) with regular old seasoned BBs? And how does it work for you? Pros and cons?
Thanks!

I not on the road yet, but looking at a 4L60E/80E with a paddle shifter. Price wise a lot less expensive than a conversion to 5/6 speed especially if you are making any sort of power.

I was planning on using the T56 I have, but now I'm considering a 4L60E instead, since I'm also considering a mid engine configuration.

If I got lucky enough to find a car that alreayd has a manual tranny, then it would be a no-brainer. I'd just go with a T56, but of all the project cars I have had in the last 5 years, none were manuals. But to tell you the truth, i won't really be disappointed with an auto. I have always enjoyed them. Then again, I really loved the 6spd in my 98 Z28.
Hmmmmm....
