You may know that 2 weeks ago, I purchased this beautiful Malibu. I'm at a stage in life that I can't build one from scratch (young kids, etc. etc) I paid more $$$ than I ever wanted to, telling myself that this would be perfect as-is, just get it, wax it, drive it, show it, etc. etc.

Yeah,Right! I can't sleep at night, can't function well @ work, don't listen to my wife (OK, so thats not new). Then I see Jody's Mali2ude, Ring Bros. Camaro, etc. etc. You guys are bad influences, VERY bad influences:unibrow:

Hence comes my official introduction to my "project": SIKNESS
Sikness: because it is an illness
Version x: because it will be continual and probably have no end point

"Hi, I'm Jay, and I'm an addict"

For me, this works though! I can work on the car, but still enjoy it, drive it, show it. Will I tear it down, change paint, and do similar to aforementioned projects? Not even close. I shouldn't even mention my car in the same breath as theirs. But over time some things will change, and it will curb the symptoms of my illness.

Work in progress:
1. Detail, detail, detail
2. Fix necessary items (ie. new window motor, fan shroud clip, etc. etc.)
3. Install FAST system before Scottsdale Goodguys
4. Re-paint dash

Aspirations:
1. Bigger Turbos
2. More HP, More HP, More HP
3. Wheels (although, I'm really turning away from wanting wheels, as these just fit the car so perfectly!)
4. ???????

yeah that car is sick all right. my buddy and i saw it at goodguys, pleasanton.
he really liked it as he has a 65 malibu he would like to do something similar but wants the ride hieght to be more like what your car is layed out, but he may just bag it as it would run a pretty penny to get that ride hieght
do you have any pics of the sickness aired up?
congrats on a sweet ride!

Again, congrats on the purchase of the car! I would also like to see it at ride height.

It's funny how we look at a perfectly nice/usable car and things we would like to change and or do differant....it is a sickness!!

Love that car and look forward to seeing the changes you may do over time!

Took these pics this morn for ya:

Slammed (actually, not slammed, cause I didn't let the rear out all the way. It's not that raked when slammed.

"ride height", which is relative, cause I can put it wherever I want.

The sikness is taking over! I just have to make changes, and I don't know why:willy:

I need your input. I am thinking of "de-blinging" the car. I think I am going to take all polished items, and make them the more "brushed" look. I can take scotch brite pads and get a very cool look. In my head, it seems like it would look different and more updated. But I'm scared to death to start on my wheels. I guess worst case scenario, I can always polish them back up later.
I would do the whole wheel, trim, motor trim. But I would leave the bumpers chromed. Don't want to go that far.

My current punch list of to do items: I am trying to take pics as I go, but i'm so tunnel vision once I get started, I can't stand to stop and take pics.

Paint dash - completed
New window mechanisms in drivers door completed
Re-work brake system in progress
a. Hydrobooster? think I have decided against it. going to 7/8 MC instead of current 1" should take care of it
b. found inside of rear rotors were grinding against calipers. built spacer to resolve problem
De-Bling car. Take any polished materials and ruff them up!
Paint a "reverse" hockey strip (from rear to front, following rear fender contour) in bright silver color
Take current turbos and change internals to get larger intakes/roller bearings, etc.
Install more agressive camshaft

Maybe brush the centers of your wheels and leave the hoops polished?

Kenny Davis did a 69 camaro and had the stainless window trim and the bumpers coated in nickel and then brushed them. Coolest thing I have ever seen.

man, you've got it bad............. :D I like Paytons idea on the wheels, brushing the spokes and leaving the rim polished; has a great contrast that way. The wheels on Malitude were fully brushed including the hoops and it never looked right to me.

Here is a pic of a red truck with grey center wheels. I know it is a truck but you get the idea. I think it would look pretty sweet on you car which by the way is just SICK!!! Looking forward to your updates!

Josh! That totally helps:thumbsup: Thats almost exactly what I was looking for. I actually want to powdercoat the centers, but I am trying to keep my budget down for other stuff right now. I think I will "brush" them now, and maybe get em powdercoated this winter

This weekend: De-Blinged all polished/chrome parts. Installed new 7/8" Wilwood brake cylinder. Changed look of engine components. It is still hard to see in pics, but there is no chrome or polished left on the exterior. It is a very subtle change, but took many hours, and I am very pleased with it. Bumpers, trim, etc have all been "brushed." I left a couple of polished pieces in the motor.

yeah, yours will be a crowd magnet. Mine is too subtle, many people never even slow down walking by. If they do get close enough to see the engine they stop, but the color of the car doesn't draw them in at all.

Jody, I'm playing a sad song on my violin here for ya:D PLEASE! That's whats so cool about your car. All business. And its not like its lacking in aesthetics also. Your car is AWESOME, but thanks so much for the compliments. Just yesterday, I drove mine to a body shop to show a painter (I'm thinking about a small graphic). He just happened to have a bone stock, '64 Malibu SS that he just painted. It was fun to put them next to each other and see the differences.

Cops... Im in a small town and hopefully they will just respect it enough to leave me alone. Plus I know 1/2 the force, so that helps.
