I just thought I would go ahead and get this started. My computer here at work broke Tuesday & I just got my replacement, so here is my entry.

My first thought to "lets see something that hasn't been done", was, what havent they put wood on?! At first I was just going to do some kind of Merc wagon. I thought about it for a while, and maybe because I was getting info together for a shop doing a 51 panel van, I had an idea. Since everybody is taking new things and making them look like old things (retro), I thought, why not take something new and take it back (neo-retro)? So, thinking about a Lincoln Blackwood, I thought about taking a 56 panel van, cutting the top off and putting a big window pick up top and back on it (slight chop- more at the base than the window, remove some of the bulge out of the top). I then went with the Blackwood style of wood around the back. The part I like about this is, by using a panel van, the rear fenders are not ultra wide looking like a PU. Back to the wood, I wrapped it around the rear, but removed almost all verticle boards. There are a lot of subtle body mods like moving the front wheels (with updated independant suspension) forward to reduce the nose heavy look of these years of trucks, slightly re-angled the rear fenders and back to get a more consistant angle throughout the side and taking a wedge section out of the hood. I tried to use some big Jason Rushforth wheels (Super Spoke), that I originally wanted the centers (along with the Merc grill) anodized a burnt platinum color, but did not have time to go back & redo them. I also was thinking about going a little different on motorvation. I thought why not use a hopped up Ford V-10?1 I am not real good at naming projects, but with the influence of this one, I dubbed this one Redwood. All in all, I had fun with this project. Thanks for the theme!

Mike- That concept is AWESOME!! I love the art and the design, way to go!! Everything about it from the Merc grille to the slanted Panel Van bum to the lack of vertical wood... sweet job! You should send this one to one of the truck mags, somebody's got to build it!

Here are my concepts. The first is a Willys Aerowing. A few years back I was browsing google for a cool car to draw and happened across this. I'm a big fan of Dare to be Different and wagons, so I chopped up this one to make a woody wagon. I chopped and extended the roof to make a 2 door wagon, laid back and radiused the windshield, cleaned up the front fascia a bit and added teardrop turn signals in the front fenders. This was back when I was still doing hand drawings and then pulled it into Photoshop for some touch ups and background.

Next is the one I worked on this month. Unfortunately I got sick and spent a few days in the hospital and then life got crazy busy after that so I only got this far. This one is all Illustrator, I'll keep working on it and post when it's done...

As much as a connoisseur of Novas as I am and having previously owned a 65 Nova wagon, I don't believe I've ever seen one with wood trim on the side, what a shame. I'd love to build this one some day, a 62-64 wagon, dropped with bags, 17" steel rallies, and an after-market front clip disguised under stock appearing engine bay sheet metal minus the shock towers. Don't forget the factory glass windshield washer bottle! Mild 355 with 3 deuces, old school polished finned valve covers and circle track ram horn look alike headers backed by a 200R4 and a 10 bolt with 3.23's out back. Orange and white interior with 1st gen low back Camaro bucket seats up front and a matching back bench. Dakota Digital gauge cluster in the factory gauge pod with a Grant wood wheel to wrap things up. Orange and white paint with the front fender indents smoothed, shaved emblems, and a billet grille to keep things smooth and simple.

Damnit! Everytime I convince myself that I'm gonna stop dragging home projects... I'm building this one!

Gotta go. I gotta call my poor brother and tell him what we're getting ready to do.

Can't wait to see yours Z. Thanks for the comments guys. Funny you guys mention it getting built. It turns out the Buick I am doing design work on got moved to another shop. The owner of the new shop really wants to build this. He told me to find someone with a truck and he would do it. He has had a couple cars up for the Riddler too. Check out Garret's Rod Shop. Love the Nova. Post it when you get it finished. It also reminds me of Garret's latest project that he is going to reveal @ Goodguys @ Indy. I can't give away too much, but here is a side pic.

I couldn't do a theme car which sucks but I did finish one for fun car this month that I'm pretty sure isn't seen much. Might not stump many of you but people might like guessing?? I dunno, I'll leave the name out for fun.
A few mods: chopped roof, re-shaped sail panel, some smoothing around the grille, one-off stripe that looks similar to stock, flat hood, BMW head lights.

Cool O'Dell! I know...it is an Aussie '71 Chrysler Valiant Charger!
I know cause I have seen a couple here in So-Cal. I am currently working on a '72 Ford XB Falcon for a client. Unfortunately, I cannot post it until the build is on its way. The Australian builder does not want anyone to build one like his before he does! :( Can't blame him! I would be posting it if I could.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Nice work gentlemen!!! I like the GTO roadster, cool concept! The Olds looks great. Did you live trace the front or is that by hand? Nice work! That Van is too cool. I have in mind to do a van theme car for a month coming up, looks like you beat me to the punch. The Aussie ride is cool, never seen one before. I like stretchingt the thought process to outside of the American cars we've seen again and again. Good job guys! Look for a new post for September's theme ride soon...
