Big thanks to Wayne Due on getting the frame finished. Car will be going to Ryan Butler at the end of the month for all the fabrication. I don't know how to post pictures so if any one can help me host them I would appreciated it.

How do I go about doing this? I'm fairly new to the board and we've been working on the frame for a while so there hasn't been alot to report. Now that it's done we will start all the fabrication of firewall floor etc.

A question, I see you have a ford 8.8 in there, how strong are those puppies? I'm looking for a diff to replace the stock (weak) unit in my vette, if it's as strong or stronger than the c4 dana 44 I may go that route instead

I was told they are pretty stout and should support about 750 rwhp. You could ask Wayne about it he would be able to tell you more.

Who's Wayne?
I need to get hold of a rear end that will live behind a 598, eventually it'll be either turbocharged or blown. I want to keep the rear an IRS as I have spent tons and tons of hours in making my own custom IRS, backhalving the car would be the easy way out, something I won't consider untill I can't find anything that will at least last on the street

Doug,
Looking fabulous! Morrison does a nice job on those 2x4 rails. Wayne seems to be doing his usual stellar work too. You're in good hands. Congratulations on the progress so far.
One caution: the frame rails ahead of the wheels are too long (ask me how I know!), and will need to be trimmed back several inches to allow for things like a radiator and bumper mounts. It's likely the little round tube up front is destined for use as a vise tightener (that's what mine does). It's not a big deal yet, but don't anybody start hanging things off those frame rails up there.
Good luck, and keep us posted.

It's tight but everything will fit. Not even sure which way were going with the power plant yet. If we go NA Ryan will be custom making the headers and if we go TT he will be fab the manifolds. Either way it's all got to be custom.

Doug, I'm doing all the "make it pretty" stuff now. I have parts all over the east coast getting painted, powder coated, anodized, and nickel plated. I picked up my rear end housing yesterday, and some anodized parts today. My brake lines are on order, and they tell my engine is only a couple of weeks away. I'm actually close to putting on parts that won't be taken back off again.

Well it's been a while but we have made some progress. Just to get up to speed I had Wayne Due build me a frame for the car. As it turned out it had many problems. We had to redo fabrication on the rear end just to get the third member out of the car. I don't know what Wayne was thinking?? Also the expensive shocks he out in won't work unless I want the car to look like a stink bug. Wayne suggested a cobra r rear end which worked but my fabricator had to search high and low to get axles made.
As far as the front end all that was wrong too. Caster and camber was all wrong so we had to fabricate new upper control arms and lay back the mounts. With that all fixed you can see the progress in the pictures. We are ordering a radiator and need to decide on which fuel injection to go with.

Yes wayne due did do the frame but it was not correct. The front end geometry was wrong and we had to make new upper a arms. He chose a cobra r 3rd member which was almost impossible to get the half shafts for. In addition there was no way to remove the third member so we had to do some more re-fabrication. Bottom line is I was not happy for the price I paid.
Hopefully everything is fixed and we will find out in a couple of weeks.

Hi John,
Since it's independent rear the driveline doesn't need to be removed. But the shocks have to be taken off so the a-arms can drop down to get the tires off.
I'm debating doing a front tilt hood because the way we have the current hood hinges I don't like them. The tires come so far up in the engine bay we couldn't use a stock hinge.

The opening is just a bit to small. If you look at the front opening to the back it just a little out of proportion .When you put a big wheel and tire combo back there it seems to get lost.I did a 66 for a guy a few years back we stretched the opening 3 inchs and it made world of difference in the look. I have no photo's of this car and I tried to track it down awile back for Jason at G-FORCE so I could show him but I could'nt locate the car. I'm a BIG fan of these 66's. And I can't wait to see this done. Doug this is just my opinion,I know this thing will turn out bad azz either way!!!:hail:

Good call Doom. I haven't focused much on the body aspects of the car because we have been trying to get it running. But I remember now seeing the wheel well mod done by a few other 66 nova owners and yes you are right it looks good if done right.
Right now I'm trying to figure out all the interior styling, dash layout and gauges. I am also going to start focusing on the exterior too.
Doug
Doug....
I've done this a few times on Novas.
18" wheels fit perfect.
I'm currently building a Nova with 19's and I think this is max with the stock openings. Attached are pics of what we've done when running 20's.
I basically got a fender opening patch panel and split it in half.
I widened the opening 2" foward and 2" backward for a total of 4".
I also got a rear sail patch panel and used it to "pie" cut the quarter so it matches up and the bottom. Hope this helps.

Not exactly sure on the dash...we are working on some different things. Are you still going with the procharged LS7? I'm debating about doing the tvs mp2300 supercharger. Supposed to make great power and excellent drivability.
I can't believe the great drivability right out of the box with the LS7. We used the Speartech wiring harness and computer and haven't even tuned it and it runs like a raped ape. If your in the neighborhood come by for a ride.

Doug,

John
We have but haven't pushed it hard because we have not dialed in the suspension.
Sadly Wayne Due really screwed up the frame! We had to redo the front a-arms because the way he set it up it didn't allow for proper geometry.
The back....where do I start? We got the alignment as close as possible with a plumb bob, strings and levels. Our next problem is how to get it on an alignment rack. We are finding out the alignment shop needs to be able to attach their laser jig onto the wheels in order to do a four wheel alignment. They are saying they can't do this because the wheels are tucked up inside. Right now it looks like the back adjustments are maxxed out. So now we are thinking if we have to do some more adjusting we may have to change the pickup points on the suspension to get it aligned properly. Another issue that really upsets me is the way Wayne designed the rear end. There is no way to run exhaust out through the back. You don't know how many times I have thought about ripping out all the rear and doing a straight axles and 3 or 4 link:willy:
Also we probably need to change the spring rates the ones Wayne provided were all wrong. After all the money I spent with him I felt I was definitely shortchanged. To add insult to injury he is no where to be found to confront him with these issues:(
Sorry for the rant:mad:

I have a guy up here that does everything the old way. he used camber caster gauges and the tape measure and about 40 years experience. He aligned the rear on my truck with the 22's tucking lug.
Call me if you need the number.
And yes the Custom stuff done by Wayne Due is absolute Junk. Just ask Tyler about his 50/50 car.

Yeah I'm gathering parts to build an R1 powered Rhino. I bought a bare chassis and plan to short course race it with my buddy who we built this Teryx for last year right before SEMA.

This Teryx was the fastest through the whoops at the Fox Shox Test track earlier this year. We lowered the roof 9" and widened and lowered the seats like 3" on each side. Every since I have been spun out on building one.

Well we found a local shop that said they could do the four wheel alignment. Unfortunately the rear would not align. Actually the right rear was close but the left rear was out a degree and a half. To correct this the alignment shop says we need to move the upper a-arm mounts outward by about 5/8 of an inch. Obviously when Wayne Due built the frame it was wrong. What concerns me is why is one side off and not the other? If everything is symmetrical why does only the left side have to be moved?:_paranoid
I'm seriously thinking of puling the whole independent rear out and going with a straight axle. Not sure what I should do. Next week we are going to pull the gas tank and all the suspension and try to determine what is wrong. Hopefully the frame is square and centered in the car if not than we have a big problem:(
Any one have any suggestions. It's C5 upper and lower control arms with a cobra R rear end. We had to have totally custom half shafts made as well. So I already have a lot invested.

I would like to bring this thread back from the dead. The car has taken a long time due to my construction business being slow for me and a long drawn out divorce, therefore there was a shortage of money. It is drivable, but still needs a lot of work. I'm going to post a few pics of it's current condition and some renderings of a possible dash and console.
I still have many questions on how I'm going to proceed, because the advances in these cars go so fast due to the fact I've taken so long to build the car. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Not sure on how to advance the styling of this car, but the dash looks good to me. Subtle and classy. That dash and console design, in my opinion, looks like it can withstand the test of time. It's no too flashy where it would look dated in a year or two. I like it. Also, glad to see you still have the car thru a divorce. I have some friends who got divorced and the spouse neither wanted the car nor knew what to do with it. They just didn't want them to have it and knew it would hurt them to take it.

I'm glad I kept the car too, just want to get it finished, but the details are endless. Have several things up in the air that need decisions. Hopefully I can get some help and suggestions here.

I too hope you continue to work on the car. Use whatever motivation you can to bring this to completion.
I love your idea about extending the lower dash and angling it back. That would definitely help with hiding the bottom of a Gen IV evaporator and the A/C tubing. And it wouldn't look "tacked on".
Carry on, lad.
