Background: I have a 2004 V10/6spd from a rolled SRT-10 truck. This is being transplanted into a 70 Dodge Charger. The V10 is on an engine run stand and runs with the original PCM and dash cluster. It has the RF key/SKIM security system as well.
There are 3 basic things I need to accomplish - but I need to find someone that can give me good advise or assist in modifications:
First, I will be installing new gages in the Charger. They can be electric or mechanical. Most likely Autometer Super Comp II full set of gages (tach, Speedometer, oil pressure, oil temp, volts, fuel pressure, fuel level). I need to know how to interface them into the engine system. Do I just procure new sensors of the appropriate type? Concerns I have is with tach and what to tap for signals. Etc. for all gages.
Second, I want to remove the SKIM/security system. I will NOT be using the original dash cluster. I believe the SKIM/security system, Dash cluster, and PCM all communicate via PCI to exchange VIN/etc. I will also be removing the cats/etc., So I believe I need to find someone that can reprogram the PCM to disable the SKIM stuff and modify the other necessary parameters. Who can do this?
Third, the engine needs to run with the reprogrammed PCM and WITHOUT the original dash cluster. Is this possible? I "think" the PCM needs a number of vital engine statistics/parameters while it runs. So I am concerned about ensuring the PCM sees this information AND getting the new gages to work.
This is a tall order - I have tackled every part of the engine swap - but this particular electronics/engine management/security system is out of my current league of knowledge. I have the 04 FSM and have poured thru it - what a nightmare, and of little help.
Should I just drop the idea of modifying the stock PCM and go with a full aftermarket ($$$$) engine mgmt system? Suggestions?
What I need is a professional tuner that has experience with what I am trying to do.
I have this posted in a couple of forums - including viperalley and VTCOA with no hits thus far.
