View Full Version : SEMA: Lateral-g Party/Open House at Sandlin Lumber
We're planning another get together during SEMA at Steve Sandlin's shop that's just off the strip in Vegas.
The date: Wednesday, November 2nd
The time: 4pm to 8pm
The Location:
Sandlin Lumber Co
5620 S. Cameron
Bldg D, Unit E
Las Vegas, NV 89118
Click here to see a map on MapQuest (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&addtohistory=&formtype=address&searchtype=address&cat=&address=5555%20Arville%20St&city=Las%20Vegas&state=NV&zipcode=89118%2d2243&searchtab=home)
Drinks and finger food will be provided.
Please either post here or e-mail me (
[email protected]) if you're coming and how many will be attending so I can keep a running total. It was a great time last year; great people, good scenery, and some incredible cars to check out.
Jody and I would like to thank Steve for this opportunity. We are lucky to have such a great member of Lateral-g. :)

Scott,
I am in a small town 25 miles west of Mankato. I am in the early stages of my '65 Nova rebuild. This time it is going to be crazy. Full chassis-full C4 suspension, and the Coup de' grace- the drivetrain........should I tell you??:P I am building a 4200 Vortec inline 6 to between 500-600 HP. Undecided on the tranny yet-but would like to go 6 speed. Kris is working on a rendering for me. My company(me) is actually building the car. Your car is gorgeous-can't wait to finally meet some of the guys from here and PT.com. We should try and get together and bench race some time so I can drool over your car.

Sounds like a great time, is it possible to add three more to the fun? I'd like to attend, as well as Matt and Katz, if it's not too late. We will be at the PT dinner the following night, but last year I think I got to talk to about 25% of the folks I wanted to meet. Finger food and mingling will make it a bit easier to make the rounds!

Because of the number of people that are going to be here, Steve has decided to move it to a larger building on the Sandlin Lumber facility. Last year, we were in the 4,000 sq. ft. Rod Shop, but this year, we get a 25,000 sq. ft. building so there will be plenty of room. Steve tells me there will be quite a few cars to check out inside the building. Maybe I'll just let Steve tell us what's all going to be there.
I'll be posting an aerial shot of the Sandlin Lumber facility shortly, it will show you guys which entrance to use and which building we'll be in. Trust me, it will be super easy and it's only a little over a half mile from the Strip. :)

This one's on me, boyz...but I told the 4-5 ladies tending the bar/buffet it was okay if they had a tip-jar. They're being paid handsomely, so no need to make a big deal out of their tip-jar. Interestingly...they're all unmarried [presently] and claim they don't scare easy!
I parked 30 cars in the warehouse/party room today, plus I'll have my two drag racing cars in place tomorrow morning 6:30 AM. My favorite section of the display is the 6 Corvettes, but you'll see a wide spectrum of stuff including original unrestored GM muscle cars thru a couple purdy nasty protouring and notorious street rods. Still have a day's worth of decorating to do tomorrow, then Wednesday morning I meet the Brinks truck at the beer store. If you have a preference in brand of beer, bring it...otherwise you get your choice of the 5 brands I plan to provide, complimentary. There'll also be plenty of finger foods, wine, soft drinks, bottle water and coffee plus tables/seating for 185, give or take.
In recap...Free food & beer, 32 car display, 5 barmaids, a couple hundred gearheads...God Bless America!!

Steve,
Once again thanks for the hospitality. This is no doubt going to be a great event. Look forward to seeing all you guys & gals (if there are any??) Wednesday or sooner, just hopefully not in jail by weeks end. I can read the headlines now...Lat-G group arrested after chaos breaks out at stripclub!!

Great party, Thanks again Scott, Jody, and everyone that helped with everything. It is so good to put so many faces with these names we see everyday.
Steve, all I can say is WOW, what a nice collection of cars. I asked several there if you offered someone their pick, which would they choose. Not many could pick one true favorite. For me it would have to be either the 409 car or the blue COPO. Of course I would have to fight SW over the COPO-LOL
You are truely a class act and I was very impressed with all the work you and your staff did to make the event a hit. Thanks again.

Hi all,
Was great to meet some of you at Steve's shop last night. Big thanks to Scott and Steve for having me and my buddy Jay (the photographer guy) along there. As I mentioned to Scott, I'll try getting on here alot more as I'm hopefully staying out here and will be looking for some kind of gas guzzler to keep me busy.
Jay took a stack of photos, so I'll send Scott the link and he can put them on the site.

Ahh, Laura! You had to have been there!!!!  :D
Wow, what an EVENT!! The turnout was huge (easily 230+ people) and there were some damn cool cars to check out.
This EVENT woudn't have happened without Steve, Jason, and the rest of the Sandlin Lumber crew. They put in some long hours and some serious work to get the building setup, cars on display, all the tables and carpet, etc. It was truly special - you don't get to see cars like that all in one building.
Thanks again, Steve. It was without a doubt the highlight of my SEMA trip.
Pics coming soon. :)
I'll have a webpage up ASAP. Here's a teaser.

I second that. You'd be hard-pressed to find another guy as cool and generous as Mr. Sandlin. Had an awesome time and it was great to meet several of you guys there.
Thanks again Steve! :hail:

Several other people were taking pics as well and I'll be adding them as they e-mail them to me.

Steve,
Although I didn't get the chance to speak or meet you in person, I wanted to thank you for your hospitality of a great party. My fiance and I didn't get there until after the prizes were givin out but all I can say is when we walked in I just about passed out. Awesome car show to say the least!!!
I did however see you again on friday at the strip with your new car, again I wanted to say hi and thank you but you looked pretty busy workin on the car
so I didnt want to bother you. Nice racecar!! If you have another party next year I will have to make a point to meet you for sure.
Anyway, thanks again for everything and Scott thank you too!!!
