why car does not sit level what gives????

Man do I have problems....I will try to explain it as best as I can.On 69 camaro I assembled my shortened rear end with brakes, half inch spacers then wheels installed and slipped it under the car with a DSE mini tub kit as well as DSEs 3" dropped leafs.My rear wheels are 18x12 with 6.125 backspacing.When the car is on the ground the left side sits 3/4" higher than the right side.Next issue is the left tire side wall is 1/4" away from the quarter panel while the right side has almost an 1" from the quarter.Here comes the kicker...you would think just loosen up the adjustable leaf perches and walk the rear end over 1/2" and problem solved but as soon as I move the diff a tiny bit the left tires inside sidewall sits the leaf spring!!! I have as it sits now 1/4" between the left inside sidewall to the leaf spring and 1/2" on the right inside sidewall to leaf spring.Man am I stressed out.......please help!

Wow..I'm a little stressed out after reading that!

I wouldn't worry to much about the 3/4" diff in height at this point. Seems to be a common problem when installing new leafs. It drove me nuts trying to get mine right. Biggest mistake is putting the car on the ground with all the nuts and bolts tightened. It also could be that one leaf has a different arch than the other.

The other issue is confusing...clear as mud kind of thing. Did you use the DSE Offset Shackles? Do you need them?

Keep the faith. Someone here has a solution. :thumbsup:

I used the complete DSE mini tub kit.About the leaf springs...... its almost as if the leaf springs and the rear end need to move 1/2" over towards the pass side.:(

I dont think your problem is all that bad, move the right side over towards the left 1/8 inch that gives you 3/8" on both sides. Check the yoke center and pinion angle and weld it. When I did my 67 mini tub set up Kyle had no problem with my 1/4 clearance between the tire and spring. I chalked my leafs and did a slalom test in a parking lot and got real agressive left to right , side walls didn't touch. It sounds like your backspace would have been nice at 5.5 inches(no spacer) instead of 6.125, a 1/2" spacer is a lot in my opinion, make sure the studs are long enough to get a good bite on the wheel.

BTW- Im curious what was your axle flange to flange dimension?

these next four are the right rear with 3/4" from outer sidewall to quarter lip clearance and inner sidewall to leaf spring has just under 3/4" of clearance.

Are you sure your rear end was cut correctly? Doesn't make sense for the leaf springs to be that much closer on one side if an equal amount was cut off each tube and axle. I'd bet that is where your problem exists. The ride height may very well be a separate problem.

I'm pretty sure the diff was cut right cause my new axle from moser were ordered 2" shorter and they fit perfect.This weekend I'm going to crawl under it and see what is going on.

I would make sure everything is aligned when you bolted the housing on to the leafs it was centered and double check the rear to make sure they are the same length like Vegas69 said

Stupid question on the ride height. Did you replace the framerails, trunk floor, quarters, etc? If so, did every thing check out level, i.e. baselining the height to the framerails to the height of the tailpan and quarter lips?

I am assuming that the body shop did all of the proper measuring and squaring up of the back end of the car.I am going to have to go over everything that this shop did......It was only there for 18 months :mad: .As for the rear end I will be checking everything this weekend and keep you guys posted and thanks for all the suggestions:cheers:

may be a dumb question, but have you physically measured all the wheels for proper width and backspacing.
