View Full Version : 69 Camaro project at Autokraft
I'm going to get this thread rolling for Kurt at Autokraft (www.autokraft.org). He's building a bad ass 69 Camaro for a customer using a DSE front sub, DSE Q-Link, Fikse wheels, Wilwood brakes, LS7 with a Katech cam, and a beautiful Kinsler intake with carbon fiber velocity stacks. A good bit of the car is done, and I thought now would be a good time to start a build thread so we can all follow along.
ALL the pics can be found HERE (http://www.autokraft.org/gallery/hayim/) on Kurt's website.

Looks like a sick project, love the intake. What color is it going to be painted?
It hasn't been painted yet, but it's most likely going to be hugger orange with white stripes.

This is a dumb question, but I'm not sure I like the chrome rear bumper with the painted front bumper (in the rendering). I'm not all that educated on '69 Camaros compared to most, so maybe this is a normal occurrence.
Either way, this will be a badass car. The quality of work thus far looks top notch.
Keep the pics coming!!!!!

The endura bumper was an option in 69, they came painted body color with the rear bumper being chrome.
There should be a lot more pics coming soon. Should be in color soon (and it's not the same color as the rendering :unibrow: ).

Just a question about the silicon bronze. I've seen this used before and have done a little research. Are you just using this on the parts that you don't deem structural? It sure makes pretty looking welds. I thought I had read somewhere that it makes a weaker weld and shouldn't be used on structural joints.
I'm just curious - trying to learn.
I like the clearance modifications for the exhaust. You can tell that you've been down that road before with a Camaro. It's always nice to have those previous experiences to draw on.

Correct. Non structural- sheetmetal. Like you would not want to use it for welding the subframe to the subframe conectors or welding together a roll cage

I found this at lemons web site :
" Spark plug wiring:
For all of our Big Block and LS headers we recommend a 45 degree wiring boot and for all of our Small Block headers we recommend a 90 degree wiring boot."
But based on pictures it look like the stock boots would clear ? Can you double check this for me ? If they work i place my order right in.

So what do you guys think? What other cars (69 Camaro) are on par with this one? I told a buddy of mine that my old car was being transformed into a car that will compete with any build out there. He chuckled...then he checked out this thread and just about dropped a warm load.

Max...He's 8 now and I've been showing him the updates. He loves the build....... and keeps telling me I should have kept it. Your son is the same age right?
The fit and finish and no overthetop crap is what makes this build so sexy to me. The DSE type build has always appealed to me because it's a like an OEM fit and finish. The bits and pieces on this one are heading in that direction and I love it. Did I say I love it?!

You need to contact Dan Lemon at Lemon's headers, but one of the options is that you can get these headers in stainless steel. The material cost will double the price though. This option is not listed on his site, but Dan told me on the phone that he could build the headers in stainless.

Hello Jeff,

Just asking for future reference when I get to that point some day.

Here's the dyno sheet.... Katech thought it would make close to 650hp with their cam and the Kinsler IR intake, but it made slightly more.
This cam sacrifices extreme top end pull to make mid-range torque, and does it ever. The torque numbers are awesome, and look how the motor just shuts off after making peak hp at 6200.

Nice torque/horsepower numbers.
Now is this a stock crate engine LS7 with the Katech cam and Kinsler intake being the only 2 modifications?
Pretty much a stock LS7...Kinsler IR intake (with what you see for air cleaners), Katech Torquer cam, new valve springs, retainers, headers with 2" primaries, and a BS3 ECM.
It's the same cam I'm running in my car, which Katech claims will make 610hp at the crank, so the Kinsler intake stepped it up considerably.

Katech does make some great products - I won't disagree BUT...
Kinsler makes some AWESOME products.
When I heard the dyno numbers from the cross ram last year I was blown away. There are so many discussions about how the LS7 intake can't be beat (and almost nobody else has been able to) but the ITB intakes are just increadible.
I guess your nitrous kit is going to sit on the shelf for a while?

Car realy looks outstanding. I have one question on the dry sump tank .I see a lot of people doing this. The breather hose to breather tank with a U bend going to the sump tank. Will the oil pool in the line going to the breather and shut off the air off to the breather tank. Anybody run in any problems with this set up. Im starting to set mine up. I thought the breather tank line should be slighly higher with no bends
down so that oil in the line will drain back to the sump tank.

Awesome build. I love the Kinsler setup. Will the Camaro have a standard front end or RS setup? The tailights are designed after std non-RS and look very nice and clean. Just curious if the owner was going to carry that over to the front end as well.
It will have the standard grill, an Endura bumper, and Marquez front marker lights.

Well Shiznit....
Here I am once again getting excited about ANOTHER 69 CAMARO buildup...But ya know, I've realized something, there's a reason there are so many 69 Camaro PT builds: They just flat out look BAD...
And even though this one may share a few ideas, maybe a partial parts list, and some other tricks with a few other 69's, as you watch the build progress, you can't help but smile as you see it establish it's own personality and attitude, stepping away from any possible labeling of it as just "ANOTHER 69 CAMARO"...
Even as a HARDCORE Chevelle guy, a Chevelle WAGON guy none-the-less, I can honestly say that I could follow along to these bad ass builds forever, even if they were all 69 Camaros from here on in...

I don't believe Stuart owned this car. Scott Gulbranson who used to own this site built this car himself. Autocraft did paint it though for him. Scott sold this car last summer.
