do not grind the lead, use a propane torch and wire brush, do repairs, then use usc "all metal" as first coat before filler.
the lead will go shiny when its ready just like solder or aluminum when tig welding

you have to remove the lead, if you can't do it you'll have to find someone who can, there's probably rust underneath it and will have to be fixed, then do your welding and you can use duraglass or use some type of metal filler. The lead is very bad as dust or even when its melted, you need to use a good mask and I'd get a paint suite even cover your shoes then clean up and throw everything in a plastic bag and dispose of it. telly

You still need a resperator with the correct cartridges . Then make sure you was your hands well you can injest it also.

ok i need a good mask, suit, something for bootes.us a propane torch and wire brush heat the lead till it turns shiny then brush it out the seam.as im doing this should i just remove what i need to just do repair or remove all of it and replace with metal filler.i have ran 36 grit over it to just remove paint and the lead looks good on quarter i just need to repair the area down in the window frame not up on the quarter.i have replaced the metal on front and i had to cut out some of the small pegs for the clips for the window trim.i have seen people use rivets for clips but i was told they make screw in pegs but i dont know were to find them. thanx for the comments it helps alot .

I take all the lead out when I do cars then weld the seems completely. Just make sure your very carefull in cleaning up especially if you have children a little lead can give them lead poisening. good luck telly
