Well we have two projects going on in the shop that getting very similar frames. We bent up the rails and then layed out all the suspension pick up points in Soildworks and cut out the plates on the waterjet. After we did that we made all the slotted gusset plates to go inbetween the frame in Solidworks and then waterjet them also.

We are updating our website currently if you would like to see more.

We are debating doing a Camaro shop car, that is all business. The only reason for the body is so we can drive it on the street. The Camaro wheelbase is very similar to the corvette. If something like that interests you for the Camaro performers let me know we are starting it currently with left over Corvette, LSX and kinsler parts we have laying around. There will be nothing on the car unless it makes it stop fast or go fast.

I am the (proud) owner of one of the frames that you see above. I started the frame concept with a sketch on a napkin.... then I modeled it in SolidWorks..... and now Rodger and I are refining the original concept to what you see here. His awesome crew at Ironworks (a.k.a. NovaWorks) are making it a reality!

I will start a 'project post' soon to introduce the project!

Thanks guys. Johnny and Erik have done some nice fab work on these 2 chassis's. Eric ( HWY NOVA ) is really creative and makes my job fun. I'm pretty excited about this project also. Building parts in Solidworks has really opened my eyes to the possiblities. I cannot wait for the first guy I can get to believe that we made the slots in the frame with a bent hole saw.

Is that a transaxle or a small Lear jet engine I see in one of the pics?!?

I like how you did the exhaust mounts to coincide with the frame mounts!

TRICKY! TRICKY! TRICKY!

Are you going to be tying those in with some sort of bracing going across the floorpan due to it being a convertible or will that not be need with the frame as is?

Love the rectangle holes in the frame.

They are slots. We considered rectangles, with (small) radiused corners, but went with the slots.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I thought I might show you how we go about making the pieces in Solidworks and the test fit the pattern before we cut them out on the water jet. We make most custom parts in Solidworks now-a-days, it allows you to do things that would take days to make by hand in just a few hours.

Oh i see them now. When i first looked at them i thought they were more rectangle. After the drawing that rodger just posted shows it much better. How big are the slots? They look like maybe 1"x3.5". Anyways the frame is bad a$$. I have always had a soft spot for the 62-65 novas. Any idea on a rough completion date?

How big are the slots? They look like maybe 1"x3.5".

The slots between the two main rails are approximately 5/8" x 2". The slots sizes will vary depanding on where they are located..... (you'll see on future posts).

I have always had a soft spot for the 62-65 novas.

I have a hard spot for 62-65 Novas!

Any idea on a rough completion date?

That is a tough one. Ironworks is ahead of schedule right now, but I know things will slow down with design considerations (stay tuned for more SolidWorks parts!)........ Bottom-line: I don't want to rush this build.

Eric,

Never make comments like this when the shop can read them! Rodger just went back to working on John's car!

Seriously, the project is looking sweet. I love Solidworks. It is a key tool in our project. As things move along for both of us, we should keep in touch. File sharing maybe helpful down the road. I don't know if anything will be common, but you never know.

Later,

Working with Ironworks has been a blast!

Rodger, and his crew, are quite focused on fabricating great cars, as well as staying focused on my original intent. It is a pleasure to work with a shop that can creatively contribute to a project such as mine.

Hopefully all of the lateral-g members are enjoying the build, because I sure as heck am!

I'll start a project-post soon....... if only my day-job didn't get in the way that much......

Awesome work guys as usual !! Looking forward to another great finished project from NovaWerks !!!

Wish I was a little closer to Bakertuckey so I could drop the 356G off and get her chassis finished by professionals. (Plus you could use a little eurotrash in the shop to even out all that american muscle ....)

Keep those build pics comming.

Thanks Jim, We have sure learned alot. It was kind of refreshing to add a Camaro to the board earlier this week. Eric will be starting his post about the convertible very soon I'm sure. I also going to try and keep my website updated in my extra time......I don't know when that happens but maybe it is after drag racing season and before car show season.

You know if you wanted us to work on your car, I bet UPS would ship for you in one of those fancy envelopes......haha
