Friday Aug 1st will be our first show. Remember not to post until Friday, and use all day Friday just for everyone to post art. Lets browse the show and then wait to post comments over the weekend.

July's theme-

This one is a quickie and may just be a teaser for future shows because we only have about 2 weeks to get something together. If you don't have time to meet the date and still want to participate, post something you've done in the past and we have not seen.

If you want to crank out something cool in the next 2 weeks and haven't already got something on the drawing pad, why don't we say for this month we do a patriotic themed car. Back in the 80's Hot Rod mag (I think) did a build on an 80's Ford Fairmont with an old school gasser paint theme using an American flag and such. It was pretty cool for the time. Let's build on that and do a car with an American flag theme. For those out of the country, let's see your colors somehow applied to a hot rod. Tell us about the specs on the car and I'd suggest sharing with us at least what program or medium you used to create it. Let's see what you got!

Can't wait. That's all I have to say.

i was wonderng if there could be two threads for each months contest.
One would be for the actual show, and no art would be displayed until the Friday.

The other would be a progress thread. It would be a place for artist to post how far they've come and give others a chance to critic. IMHO, this would be a great way for the artsit to improve, and for others to learn.

That all sounds o.k. to me. I'm playing this all by ear so we're just going with the flow. The HAMB site that I posted a couple of weeks ago just keeps things quiet until the show I think for the wow & surprise factor, but they also post about every Friday instead of once a month. Eventually if we get enough participation I'd like to do a contest with the monthly theme car so with that you'd probably want to wait till the end for the unveiling.

So for now lets say if you wanna show progress and get critiques go ahead and post an "art show progress thread" that we can all use, and anyone who just wants to wait, post on the Friday of the show.

the wow factor would is a good point. there is another site that does the two threads, that's where I got the idea.

I guess I'll get things rolling for our first show...

I didn't have time to do the theme car but I did get one finished up that has been on the burner. This is what I want to do with my driven to cruise nights and street legal class drag Nova. It runs great but 3 years back I grenaded the tranny and family and buying a home and other things have caused it to sit since and now it needs some serious TLC.

I did this rendering mostly in Illustrator and did highlights and such in photoshop. I've owned Novas for 21 years now, and I like the 3rd gen cars because they have this "subtly aggressive" look to them. Kinda like a pit bull- when they're sitting they don't look all that bad but when you tease 'em and they let loose, look out. With this design I wanted build on that semi aggressive look to the car and make it look a bit more so. Paint is semi-gloss on the body with gloss black side stripes. The front bumper was left off to get that "I'm gonna eat you for breakfast" attitude, and the wheels are black to give it that factory stocker junkyard dog feel. No hub caps, just chromie lug nuts. The graphics in the background would be made into a vinyl sticker that would go on the sheet metal where the back seat used to be. Very basic and inexpensive cosmetic make over with just the right feel.

Specs on the real car are 12.5:1 406 small block
Fully ported and polished Dart heads
Cusom Erson solid Cam .562 lift 262 @ .050 dur
Mallory ignition
3" exhaust with Dynomax bullets
4500 stall TH350
12 bolt w/4.56 gears
165 Skinnies and 27-10.50 DOT's on rally wheels
Fiberglass hood, fenders and trunk lid
Light weight race buckets

This motor ran mid-high 11's no bottle in my old heavier Nova, goal with this one is deep in the 10's with a 150 shot and the wheels up out of the hole.

Looks good. Try a photo hosting site and link the image. It will look better. I use photobucket, it's free.

I really like this idea as a part time artist, it will help me to keep doing something. I had been quiet up to now since I have had this rendering I have been wanting to post, but ut thought this was a great idea. It also just happened to fit into the theme (red, white & blue, although it is supposed to be silver.). I hope you like this one. It was done for a guy in Alabama that is in the process of building it now. I think you can see some subtle influences.

Some of the mods he is doing; He is going with the 69 Camaro front & rear bumper. The entire center section (between the body lines) of the hood is raised about 3". He wasn't sure how to finish it on the back, so I gave it the cowl hood look (extnding back over the vent). The original grill and front corner trim pieces are going to be fitted with perforated metal panels with 1/4"x 3/4" oval holes. For wheels, he is using Billet Specialties Magnums (18's front & 20's on the rear). On the back side, he is using four billet oval tail lights from Lokar with a cool cap recessed in between. He knew he wanted it red and silver, so I went with this layout for the break line with a sky blue pinstripe dividing the two. We haven't really got to the interior yet. He is leaning towards gray with Krist Kustom Streamline seats.

The program I use is Hand 2.0, using the marker, pastel & colored pencil tools, then scan into PhotoShop to clean up & arrange. I went with his name of "Super Nova" for the project & tried for a "spacy" feel for a backdrop, but it turned out kind of finger paintish looking.

Thanks again for starting this. I know I enjoy seeing everybody's stuff, and I seam to get better with every one I do.

O.K., sorry I have a bazillion images of mine on here, I just figured out how to post with the image in the post instead of the click on the thumbnail thing. Next month I'll just post once, promise!

You're right MLO- It'll keep us drawing. Tell us about the mods to your design, similar to what everyone was doing in PHR magazine. Looks like an extra wide cowl hood for example, or is it normal and my eyes are crooked? Are those custom taillights or off another car? Etc. ...

I thought there would be more stuff here by now.

Jay, yes, that would be the "subtle influences".:unibrow: I contacted Derek and even talked with Troy when he was in Columbus for Goodguys (to let them know it was already being built), and they both seamed flattered and excited Notorious has such an impact already.

Lets see some more stuff everybody.:captain:

Nice work guys. Sorry I didn't participate ... I've been on hiatus for awhile but I promise I'm getting in on this next month. I'm starting today.
