Got the turbo back Saturday, and the ps pump showed today. Appears that everythings good now, no smoke at idle yet, and I ran it long enough to be smoking. :hail:
Swapped gears while the car was down because the set in the car had a very loud whine on decel; turned out the coast side was wiped out but everything else was perfect. Also found a stock 4L80E pan and have over 5" ground clearance minimum.
Pulled the wheels apart also in the interim, and had the centers powder coated silver. Looks way better to me, as I pictured a light colored wheel with the darker paint. I just wish this new camera took a decent picture; I've tried every setting, even called Kodak, and it just spits out poor quality pics. The car looks much better in real life, but here's a few pics to get a good idea of how it ended up.

This post is 2 fold.......
First - Car looks great Jody. Wheels look killer - I agree like the silver better. The new valve covers look great also.
Second :( Sorry to hear about the smoking again. That sucks big time - no pun intended. Hopefully it is nothing major.
Car does look amazing Jody. Nice job

Jody That car looks amazing. I hope your car kicks the habit soon.
Jody,
The car looks killer. It's really making you work, but you're good at hanging in there and making it come together. We all see what it takes from builds like yours and it better prepares us for the little battles along the way. Enjoy the 'rita!

Jody did you get to drive the car and put the turbo under boost? I'll bet the seal "ring" didn't get all the way seated yet...I hope it's that simple. :)

well, that's another issue. Even with the manual boost controller all the way in and the springs in the wastegates at 12 psi, it only shows 10 psi on the gauge. Runs pretty good for 10 psi, but should make way more than that.
I have gone out and flogged it a bit at that boost, and that didn't seem to help, in fact it was after that, that the car started smoking out the drivers pipe. I'll probably go out and beat the living crap out of it tomorrow, because if I gotta pull the engine I've got very little to lose............ :drive: :morepower

The car looks awesome, Jody. I'd love to check it out sometime. It's too bad about the smoking though. And don't worry. I won't be calling the air resources board about your smoking vehicle, so they won't be offering you the $500 for it so they can crush it. But Charley might.

thanks again. I pulled the plugs on that side of the engine, all spotless, no oil. Did a leakdown (cold) and all were 5-6%. Pulled the valve cover and all seals are intact and accounted for.
Not sure what it is, but I'm going to put some miles on it and see what happens. Only smokes at idle, and only after you stop for 15-20 seconds or so.
It also will only make 10 psi of boost. The wastegates are set at 13 psi (springs) so I'm confused on this one too.......... It has a manual boost controller that worked fine with the other motor. I've checked the lines several times as well as the controller (with compressed air) and everything looks fine. Even switched the lines around, but it made no difference. These are Tial 44mm units.
Drove the car into town, runs fine. Never got over 190 degrees, never missed a beat. Did find myself timing lights so I wouldn't have to stop for long though.................. :D

Just throwina few things out here.
Pull off all the lines to the wastegate, and boost it. Just make sure you watch the gauge or better yet have a passenger watch it while you drive. You can easily over boost if you not careful so if it exceeds 10 lbs you have your problem and can fix it.
If you are still not seeing more than 10lbs then, you might want check the spring rate. What bar did it say on the box.
What brand of MBC are ou using? If it's just a simple check vavle, it could have something in it, have a bad seal, or just plain be defective, even if it worked fine before.

Tial 44mm (2) with .9 bar springs. I'll try without any reference to them, should make 12-13 psi that way. Don't remember the brand of the manual controller, it was what Mark used when he originally built the car. I just regulated air pressure down to 16 psi or so and then ran it through it's paces to see if it changes psi as it adjusted, which it does.

In this buisness bugging is like a middle name it will never leave. Tom's to much of a nice guy not to help. Besides when your invloved on a car of this calibuer and your parts are on it you could bug me all day if you had to. I personaly don't think it will bug Tom. I work with him all the time. Now give him a call and get this issue resolved!!!!! I want to see this car on video?:D

I've experienced that a MBC can mess up, I do not know all the different models, but TurboXS has one which I know, and it utilize a spring with a ball (a ball bearing type ball). Sometimes it happens that the ball gets stuck. And you will have to dismount it, and put it back together...
Also remember that, when using a MBC, you will open the wastegate(s) even if the wastegate-spring is set to more psi than the current boost when the MBC opens.
So... If the MBC is messed up, it will help the wastegate(s) to open earlier than the spring is set to...
If you bypass the MBC you should get the pressure that the wastegate(s) are set to (if you have traction).... I would try it in high gear and see how the pressure builds up...
Sincerely,
Morten

Hi Jody,
The car looks incredible.
Try taking picture of the car at Dawn or Dusk.
It looks way to sunny and that is why you can't see the contrast on the wheels.

Jody...........What's the latest..........?????
Ken
Ken,
the crank was tapping the side of the pan after I re-did the turbo drain line; it was pushing the oil filter hoses into the side of the pan enough to make it just hit on the front throw. It was super close to begin with since I run a Callies stroker crank. I had pulled the engine to powdercoat the pan, and so I clearanced it first and then took it to the powdercoater. I went ahead and pulled the engine down just to have a look, everythings perfect.
It's almost back together, just waiting for a head gasket from Chevrolet which should be here today, and the pan from the powdercoater.
