Dupont Paint

I was wondering what is the Dupont Clear that anyone is using. I am painting two cars, one with single stage black w/ 40% clear added and the other base-clear.

i usually use chromapremier 72500 on the high dollar paint jobs. the only draw back i see is that it dries extremely hard. you really have to catch it in the green stage if you dont want to spend a ton of time buffing. on the other hand ive painted 6 or 7 boats lately with the new 7779-G2 clear and have had excellent results.. they were very recent so i couldnt really tell you the hold out.. we spray all our factory cars with the g2 clear and offer a lifetime warranty on the paint job so i guess that counts for something. i like to spray my personal cars with ppg 2021 clear.. i just like the luster and deep look i get out of it. 72500 is pricey, 7779 is very cost efficient with a nice luster and easy buffing, 2021 is comparable to HOK just because its thicker and more "show car-ish" haha..

I understand the HOK Clear is "soft" meaning it will scratch easily. But there sure are a lot of show cars with it????

Is the 2021 soft or hard? What's recommended for restorations assuming you drive it on the weekends and keep it in the garage; occasional cross-country trip to car shows....

hok has a "flow" clear with has an f in the part number. From what ive gathered, its you should spray the regular clear then wet sand with 600 or 1000 and reclear with the flow clear. HOK is a a softer clear but only for a longer window than anyother clear. In my opinion they all dry pretty hard. the HOK is just made to polish so i stays soft a little longer.. the 72500 dries rock hard though, not just hard. another advantage to a softer clear is that if a rock or something does happen to hit it its just going to make a small divet instead of a big flake of paint coming off. Ive painted all kinds of cars with all diff brands. they all seem to last and in the end its your call. Like i said though. i prefer the 2021 for my cars. its right between the dupont and HOK. the deepness and luster is unmatched in my opinion. :thumbsup: i would call it more user friendly than HOK or 72500. the 7779 is pretty user friendly too.

I was sold on HOK clears until I found out its yellowish because of the additional UV protection they put in. So I then started looking into all the top names, standox, spies hecker, glasurit, etc... I found alot of people really liked the dupont chromaclears.

I spary the 7779 on everything. If im doing something small of jams i will use 7776.


The 7779 buffs very easy. I sand it with 1500 then 3000 and buffs like butter.

i mix them alot depending on how big of an area im spraying.. bumpers and stuff get a nice 1 to 1 mix.. gotta love production
