Coming home from a date no less. The date went well. The drive home.... That coulda been better. So, I was on the freeway going with the speed of traffic, which was around 70-75 mph and I get hit by some douche doing around 90+. The guy started to run, too, but I was able to stay next to him and get him to pull over. But I didn't stop in front of him, so he wound up running. And the CHP took an hour to get to the scene. I'm alright, but the CHP has the vehicle description, driver description, passenger description, and the license plate number, and I don't think they're gonna do anything about it. Hell, I'd be surprised if they did anything.
Oh, and with the crash, I've seen a lot of people spin out or get the car smashed beyond belief, but my car so far doesn't seem that bad. I have to inspect it in the daylight still. I was also able to keep complete control of the car. It was amazingly easy. I was kinda shocked. I just wish it had more power so I could have chased the jackass down and stopped him again.

Zbugger,
Chris here. Glad you are OK. And, with that amount of information the CHP should be able to get the guy. If you do not hear back soon from the CHP call them and ask for status to keep this case active.

Thanks Chris. The officer told me that the report would be available in the next 10 days. It'll cost me $10 from the CHP, but I'm willing to pay that. I'll do that and see if anything else has come out of the situation. the officer I gave the report to was cool, as was the officer I gave all the info to over the phone. The passenger officer was kind of a dick though. My buddy is a tow truck driver, and I was on the phone with him when it happened. He came up to give shoulder protection for me. He said the passenger officer walked up to my car and went straight to look inside for any open containers. He seemed rather stuck up bout being a CHP as well. But like I said, the officer that took the report was really cool. He saw and knew I was pissed about it and laughed a little when I told him that I wished they could turn the other cheek so I could turn the guy into a pool of blood. His reply was "Well then it would be a good thing if we found him first then, huh?". That actually made me laugh and calmed me a little.

Well, in my life I've learned that it really doesn't pay to stay angry at something I have no control over. I just gotta deal with the aftermath now. And at least it was my daily driver '91 Sentra and not the Camaro. If it was, I'd have had the power to catch up and do more damage than I want to admit to.
Anyway, on to the damage. The trunk lid is pushed up a little because the framework of the opening was pushed up. The bumper is pushed in an inch or two. I know the trunk leaks big time now because I can almost see into the trunk with it shut. It shuts, latches, and stays closed, and is reopenable as well. What I have to do now is take pictures for the insurance guy, and replace the motor mount that broke because of the accident. Then the car is driveable again with no real issues besides the trunk.

Thanks Steve. I just don't think I'll be getting the same treatment you did with your accident...

I had the same thing happen to me when I lived in Socal...in the 80's I worked for a dealership and some clown broadsided me on the 5 fwy by Disneyland (in the rain, no less...at rush hour)...it was definitely a case of road rage on his part.
He took off after I got his license plate number. Three different people stopped to make sure I was okay...and to offer his plate number in case I didn't get it.
It took 45 minutes for the CHP to show up and take a report. I asked when they were going to "go pick him up" and they said it wasn't a priority as there were no injuries.
After about a week (and constant bitching from my boss at the dealership...because I was driving a company car) I called the CHP to see what they had found out. Nothing...nada...zip...they didn't care.
So....I got in touch with our DMV lady at the dealership and had her run the plates (you could do stuff like that back when). I got the guys name address and all the other pertinient information and went to the Santa Ana CHP office.
When I told the I had all the information as to who the guy was...they were angry...and asked me where I got the info. I bascially told them it was none of their business...and now that they had the info...they needed to go and arrest him...as I would press charges. I would also follow them over to where he lived (two blocks away from Santa Ana DMV).
When we got there he had moved. They issued a bench warrant...but I never heard anything about the case again.
Last thing...about 8 months after the accident I had a neighbor who was an Anaheim detective run the guys name through their system. He hasd quite a few warrants out for his arrest already. He couldn't understand why the CHP didn't pick him up on the outstanding warrants...neither could I...
Glad to hear that you are okay...and that you didn't have any injuries!

In most states it is against the law to leave the scene of an accident. If the accident involved injuries he should be arrested for leaving. He has a certain amount of time to report the loss if there were no injuries.
If you have his plate the police will have his Insurance info. If he ran there is a good chance there is something wrong.
Be smart get to your doctor ASAP and get a report. Do not write no injuries on anything let alone a public web site until you are positive.
I would demand the Police follow up and possibly press charges.
Be smart!!!

That could have been really nasty! Glad you got off as easy as you did. Hate to put it like that but when you stop and think about it....we could have been reading about in the paper, rather than having you here to tell us.

Well, from what I told the officer, yes, my neck is sore. He asked me if I was hurt and I said no, but my neck is sore. It's the muscles that hurt, and not the joints, so it feels like I did some sort of neck workout. I'll be following up this week if anything hasn't been done. I did report it to my insurance with all the info I gave the CHP. They have the guys license plate number, vehicle description and all.
Mike, I'll shoot you a pm with the info.

They will get him. Give them a chance. I would be surprised if they haven't picked him up already. CHP will run the plates, find out the address the car is registered to ( if the car has not been reported stolen) contact the local agency and the local agency will go out and do the investigation.

Sorry to hear about the accident Alan. Fortunately you didn't get to hurt real bad and like you said you were not driving the Camaro - just sucks all the BS you'll have to deal with because of some idiot.
But on the flip side - The date went well.

sorry to hear about the accident.as far as repairing the car I have a 96 sentra that had the same damage.I went to a local you pull it yard and got a trunck lid and bumper the same color for under 75 bucks.kind of a primitive way to repair itbut, I just tied a rope around a big tree in my front yard and pulled the caved in trunk frame out.after getting it close I just beat it the rest of the way with a hammer.now the trunk dosent leak and my kids dont make fun of it anymore.only paid 850 for it so who cares.it gets about 30 mpg.

Wow, I am sorry to here about this.. I'm glad you are ok. Give the cops a chance first, if no luck with them, you may go have a conversation with the driver yourself...

Sad to hear about the car, glad your OK. With as big a pain as it is, the car can get fixed. They will find him with all that info. You may need to stay on them though. I hope everything works out.
