Hey guys, does anyone mess with 3d renderings or animation? Im considering taking an online course that is generalized in video game creation and it looks like they use the latest version of Maya. Im not looking to get rich, I just find 3D animation insteresting. Does anyone have any tips or directions to point me in? I was thinking video game creation would be a good start with dreams of someday getting into something like Pixar. Any help would be nice, thanks.

Check out blender! Free, professional-grade software.
First I would look into trying all the differnt software out there and there are many modo,3d studio max, maya, rhino etc etc...
I would say go with the one that has the most tutorials you can find out ther for free no need to really take a course if you have an aptitude for this stuff its easy er ish I guess?lol;) :D
Hey I have used 3ds max for about 5-6 yrs of and on and I'm just above novice.
Check out http://www.evermotion.org/ I hang out there a bit and try rendirosity.com lots of tips tutorials etc...
Some examples of what I have done in 3ds max

Dodgenut64, 3d can be an overwhelming learning curve but I personally love the results. It is very hard to be a casual user of any 3d app. Download and test all the apps out there and then choose the one that fits your style best. Remember though 3d apps are just tools and it is the talent that makes them shine.

And I would reccomed you set aside plenty of time to learn. You can't let it slide.

Thanks guys. You are right, from what Ive looked at you cant get into this as just a side project and expect things to just fall in your lap. Im looking at schools right now. The nearest ones to me are in the Chicago area and Kansas. They actually deal in animation and 3D models. I sent out for informtation. One of them has an online course, but Im just not sure how helpful that would be.

What school(s) did you find in Kansas? I live in Wichita and I'm not sure who has good programs either. I had thought about doing it aswell.

Check on this website. Its under school listings off to the left http://www.awn.com/. I think theres more then one. In the Chicago area, there is about 4-5. Why cant St.Lo have at least one? I looked at ITT, but they dont really have what im looking for.
