Does anybody know where I can find a carbon fiber insert to put on my 1972 Camaro console? It has the stirrup shifter (stock) and would like to find a insert which will match a Covans carbon fiber dash, for the stock console. Thanks!

You could make your own using carbon fiber sheet. Anvil Auto (site sponsor) sells sheets of carbon fiber with adhesive backing.

Or you could send your plate to a hydroillusion place.

or have a custom one made by the people who did mine, they're doing another carbon fiber run in a week or so:

I also like the sheet idea from Anvil, just wonder how the edges look when cut. I tried cutting the custom stuff I had done and the cut edge looks different than their finished rolled over edges. Of course, if you cut all the sides they'd match.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I knew some one would have an answer. I figured that some one would make an insert like this to go with the Covans carbon fiber dash. Looks like there woud be a market for these as the Firebirds of 70-73 have almost the same shape and style shifter plates on their consoles. Thanks again!

you better use the faux carbon fiber company if your planing on it matching the covan piece... cause if you get the anvil stuff or something else thats a "real" CF top layer it wont match the covan very well.

We will be coming out with a real carbon fiber instrument panel in a couple months as well as A-pillar moldings just in case anyone who sees this thread is interested. We will be introducing a lot of 2nd gen parts this year along with some parts for other cars, I hope. It is taking longer than I wanted to get all the various patterns ready to mold. Please keep checking our website for updates. Thanks!

Cool Tracy,

We are also planning a center console that can be customized with leather, etc. and will fit a variety of cars. Perhaps you have other ideas for some cf interior parts?

Have you thought about making some inserts or templates where with the instruction of the purchaser, you could produce a variety of different dashes or ???, depending on what the customer wanted? (Modular)

I know you are up to your rear ends in work, however the Covan's dash, and even DSE's dash get really boring looking time after time after time.

I personally wouldn't have an issue with the extra cost, if I could order what I wanted for my car by supplying the necessary instructions/Templates etc.

Thanks again,

Ty,

You pretty much summed up what we are trying to do. Custom parts that can be customized, or to put it another way, customizable custom parts.
Wait until you see our '69 instrument panel, I think you will like it. As far as making each part as a custom piece, that would be expensive, so we are trying to make everything modular like you said. That being said, we won't be able to please everyone, but will try to meet most people's needs. For instance, our console would have different plates to accomdate different transmissions.

Sounds like you folks at Anvil are on the right track! I was looking for a Carbon Fiber console insert for my 72 Camaro,it has the stock console with a stirrup shifter for the automatic. The Firebirds of the eary 70s have the same basic shifter plate with minor changes when they changed from the stirrup style to the straight stick with push button on top in 73. But the outer surround shape basically stayed the same. Sounds like there would be a maket for these pieces. Cant wait to see the second gen C.F. hood and rear deck, man thats gonna look sweet! You should be able to sell a bunch of those! Thanks for taking the time to listen to the car builders, its ideas and product suggestions that make it easier on all of us to build our dream cars. Tony
