Help me pick out a set of wheels!

I'm trying to find a set of wheels I like. I was set on some of Wheel Vintiques Billet Rallyes but they don't look like they are going to fit my brakes.

Here is what I have:
Stock sub-frame with AFX spindles with Touring Classics big brake kit (12.7 C5 rotors). Rear axle will be a Moser 12 bolt, probably go with the TC kit for the rear as well (12" rotors). Fitment for the fronts seems to be the issue.

I am looking for 17/18" wheels that are available in 11/12" wide for the rears (going to mini-tub) and 8" wide for the fronts. Planning on running Michellin PS/2 335 in back, 245 front (or larger, depending on what I can fit in the front).

I am hoping for something below the $600.00 per wheel price range. Something that looks good but still goes with the period look of my 69 (why I liked the Billet Rallyes so much)

How about the Budnik GTX or Budnik Gasser? I've seen the Gasser on a 69 and I think it looks pretty sharp. Don't look around too much, or you'll drive yourself crazy like I'm in the process of doing. There's just too many choices on the market.

Budnik's should be in your price range per wheel. Not sure on the price of the 18x12's, but the 17x8's will run you around $400 each from Touring Classics. I just got a quote 2 weeks ago from them on 17x11's and 17x8's.

Do the Rushforth's come in a standard lip design? I've been drooling over Chris' 19/18 combo in the second picture. Love those wheels!

By standard lip, you mean the old stepped lips like billet wheels used to have? Nope, we only do the smooth lips because that's what everyone wants now. That's why you love the wheels on Chris' car so much! Smooth deep lips and the larger center forging allowed by the removal of the step.

Special thanks to Frank at Prodigy, I called Frank up and he suggested Boze Forged in 17x8 and 17x11 that wouldn't break the bank and should fit on my front brakes.

So far I think I have narrowed it down to 4 styles, been trying to find pictures on a 1st Gen Camaro but not much luck:

I thought about the Budniks but when I emailed Budniks and showed them the brake templates they told me 18" or larger rims were needed to clear my brakes :( Thanks for the suggestions thou :)

I'd consider 18s but the sidewall gets a bit thin on 18s for my taste, 17s look just right to me, in 245/45/17 and 335/35/17.

For me spending 4-5k on wheels doesn't suit me. I'd rather spend around 2k and use the other 3k to put into a transmission for me to rebuild. I guess it comes down to personal preference, like I could have gone with Wilwood 6 piston caliper brakes all around but chose what I thought was the most bang for the buck and went with a Touring Classics kit and was able to redo the front and rear suspension with the difference.

Rushforth in 18x8 and 18x12 were nearly 4k ($3613).


I guess I am not seeing any difference in quality between the wheels in just pictures. Someone made a good suggestion that both Boze and Rushforth are local to me so going to see the wheels in person might help me decide (or least justify the cost difference if I see a big difference in quality).

I kind of like the Mesh/Pro-Touring look myself, but it kind of wrecks my sleeper idea.

Boze wheels are not any cheaper in 18x8/18x12(11.5) than Rushforth's.....a 3piece "shifter" was $3,510 from Boze, when I got a price on them couple weeks ago. Even the 2pc version of "shifter" was $3,400 in 12" wide. CCW has the cheapest 18x12" wide wheel I have found

The Boze I can get 17x11 (which would fit the 335/35/17) without the extra charges for widening so I am told about 2k for a pair of 17x8 and 17x11, 18s yes were lot more expensive.

Big differences, trying to find the sweet spot :_paranoid. Thou the VWW v45s are nicely priced as well, fit my brakes and have that period look to em.

Well one of the advantages of living in Southern California is that many wheel manufacturers are located here. So I went around to Budnik, Boze, Vintage Wheel Works, Intro Wheels and Rushforth and actually looked at each of their wheels in person. What a difference, I found that the mesh style has really grown on me and what I liked on the web was very different in person

I really liked the mesh style with a brushed and clear coated outer lip with gunmetal centers, that is what really brought that style out for me. The mesh style has more modern look and more represents what I am going to do to the car, but the V45s have that more period look which goes well with the sleeper look I originally envisioned.

I do have to say thou that the Rushforth wheels are pretty amazing, just out of my price range based on the widths I need.
