Ordered New Rushforth Design for My Ride

Well I went to DriverzInc and ordered a set of Rushforths for my Tempest. The wheel design is brand new and hasn't even been named yet. Although I gave them the suggestion of calling the new wheel design "The Tempest". From what Jon told me I should be the first person running this Rushforth wheel design.

[Edit 3/28/08] The 5 spoke design will be called "Strutter" and the 7 spoke will be called "Whiplash".

Here is a picture of the design rendering. This picture is of the 7 spoke version, the set they are building for me will be a 5 spoke with a polished lip, brushed spokes (powder coated in clear) and rivets surrounding the wheel.

Jon, at DriverzInc was kind enough to pull the back wheel of his 66 Chevelle to make sure it would work on my 67 Tempest. We had to adjust the backspacing an additional 1/4" to make sure it clears.

Here are the specs for the wheels:
19x8 4.75 backspace
20x10 6.25 backspace

Here are the specs for the tires:
245/35/19
285/30/20

Here's the pics of the design rendering and a couple pics of the test fit of Jon's wheel on my car. The jack was still a bit in the up position, so it'll sit much lower when I get the real deal.

We're stoked to have the new wheel design on Johnny's ride and joining us on the drive to Del Mar next week. Oh, and he'll be rolling the new wheels there 2 weeks after ordering them!

Our nice Craftsman Jack took a big ol Sh#! and all we had was the cheap back up jack from Harbor Freight that I carry around in the back of my truck just in case I'm on the road and need to measure a customer's car.

yea i saw this post before it had any responces and that was the first thing in my head... was that lil -jack BUT imo the harbor frieght jacks are much better than the craftsman... its not unusual for them to take big sh**s.

Actually John I think I like the super spokes you have on your car. Do you have any pics of a fully polished wheel on a car so I can compare it to your wheel. I really like those super spokes.

Here is a photo of the Super Spoke in all polished, but funny enough, I don't have a picture of a set that has been ordered that way. I do have a customer down the street that has a 57 Chevy that was painted by Barry's Speed Shop, but the car is in a million pieces, front clip off and all. Nice car, with a morrison Chassis. When it's back together, I will be sure to get photos. He did 19's and 20's.

This was one of his wheels.... he optioned for no hardware.

I must have decided on at least 20 different wheels only to find myself waining after a few days. Thats why I didn't say much about these. It's bee a week and I still love them over everything so the superspokes is the ticket for me.

Okay sounds like a plan. You know, I usually run a 295/40/20 on the back of the larger A bodies so you can get more sidwall in a 20", but I won't talk you out of the 18's either. Give me a call when you get a chance, and we'll get to cutting some billet for you!

Jon do you happen to have a pic of a chevelle like this in a 70 thru 72 style. My interest is peaked. Also what to you think a 18/19 combo would look like?

im with jon. the large a bodies need a large tire. when running a 28+" tall tire with 18's its just too much tire. run at least a 19 or look into the 305/35/20 nittos.

I would appreciate that. I need to see more pics of 20's. So far they have all looked too big with very little sidewall or they had plenty of sidewall and looked jacked. My rearend is not square so I have to be real careful. I was looking at running 235/40/18 in front and 275/40/18 rear if I went the all 18 route. You think that would be too much sidewall?

Yep, I'm with Tim and Jon. That's a big car with a big quarter panel and wheel opening. They have more room than Jon's 66 and you liked the look of that so the proportions will be spot on if you get the stance right.

Remember the burnt orange Chevelle that was on one of the first Overhaulins? 19s and 20s as speced by Foose and he knows a thing or two about proportions and stance. Can't find a pic of it at the moment but if you do, that will tell you how it fits and how you'll like it. IMO, it's just right for that car with a 2 or 3" drop.

yep that was for the parts guy at opg. living only 20 minutes from there, ive seen it in person and its got a bitchin stance.

a 275/40/18 is a little narrow and a little short. 295 fit with ease, 305's will if you pay attention and even a 315 if youre REAL careful.

the problem with running a narrow tire to make sure it fits is the fact that its sucked in too far. from the side you cant tell, but a 3/4 view shows how narrow the track width is. it just looks a little weird. solve your rearend issue and stuff a big tire in there.

Getting the stance right is what I am worried about. I have to rely on my friends to help me as I am not a skilled mechanic by any means. The foose car was a 71 and I attached a pic. Cost is another issue because I still need to buy tires and my wifes 65 Mustang goes in to be restored. I know the 19's and 20's cost more. I do believe he is running a 295/40/20 on an 11 inch wheel and still appears to have some sidewall. I am still undecided if I like it on a 70 thru 72.
