Hello all...... I am about to become the "GM" for a small, established aftermarket parts supplier/website.

I have so many ideas floating around in my head to improve the existing business(primarily street rod & some muscle car parts) to take it to the next level.

One of my first ventures is to create a division that will cater to all of the guys who are building cars considered to be Pro-Touring Cars, G-Machines, Air Suspension Cruisers that all seem to becoming the "new norm" at higher end level builds.

I have already established a relationship with several of the vendors that supply the majority of the parts used on these types of cars. Our goal is to become the hands-down supplier for parts to builders of the cars featured in mags such as PHR within 2-3 years. The majority of these cars will certainly be built by members here & at Pro-Touring.com.

I guess I am looking for the a "Top Five" list from you all to describe the five things that you feel are lacking at the larger speed suppliers out there right now concerning our niche. These can be as trivial as you don't like the on-hold recordings to something as serious as parts knowledge, price, inventory, shipping response time, warranty, or even show/event presence, etc.

Please format you top five concerns in a 1-5 format if possible:

1. ___________
2. ___________
3. ___________
4. ___________
5. ___________

I hope to do business with you all in the future!

Sorry about that...... that was kind of like calling your wife by her sister's name (which I have also done in past!).

1. Customer Service
2. Tell me when I'm actually going to get my parts
3. Customer Service
4. Customer Service
5. Customer Service

EDIT: This is my rant about vendors in general. When you get treated as well as you do by the likes of Paul Clark at Hydroboost.com and Kyle and Stacy Tucker at DSE, a guy gets spoiled. There's nothing I hate worse then when you call someone and they are annoyed that you want to spend money at business.

1. Clean, organized, proficient Website/catalog (Pictures, models, details)
2. Customer Service (called ricks yesterday and I think they thought I was a monkey, last time I checked....no tail)
3. Selection (Price Range,Manufactures,application)
4. Price (Problems with small companies is it is tough to compete with larger suppliers purely because of volume)
5. Cheap Shipping

I agree. I hate when I have to put more effort into getting a product, then the company puts in, to get me the product.

Guys, so far I like what I am hearing from you all. Your suggestions are all really good signs for us! Customer Service is the key to how we will operate. I have been in the Customer Service field for quite some time and plan to bring that expertise to the business.

Most all companies force there employees to rush off of a phone call which to a certain degree is needed so that others can be helped, but it takes away from letting the employee have a good time with a guy who is spending his money on his favorite toy!! It should be a fun exciting shopping experience for both people on the phone.

I will do everything I can to make my customers want to call me before calling a guy with a phone name like "Taz" who is being told not to spend too much time on the line with you. Like Paul Clark from Hydratech, Kyle & Stacy Tucker from DSE, & Tyler from ATS I will do what it takes to let you know that I want to make you happy again & again. Buying stuff is fun and the guys selling you the stuff should be almost as excited about it as you.

I too hate the standardized "two weeks" reply that you get on every single backordered part. I would rather tell you "it doesn't look good for this summer season" than take four or five angry calls spaced two weeks apart thoughout the entire summer season to ultimately end in a cancelled order and a bad taste in your mouth.

Although we are a small company in the grand scale of things the pricing should be very competitive once you compare shipping & handling fees throughout the aftermarket parts industry.

We are planning on some big incentives for forum members as well as offering some of you to play a key role in our business for those who feel qualify.

More details to come in August........

I've been guilty of the 'two weeks' backorder response. Sometimes you really think it will be there, and the vendors get backed up. We're getting better as we go along though.

Every time I hear '2 weeks', I think of the movie The Money Pit. Kind of fitting. lol
