View Full Version : Any non all drag cars running SOLID BODY BUSHINGS?

I am trying to decide if I want to order solid or poly body bushings. Yes I searched but there isn't too much info on solid body bushings on cars that aren't mainly drag racers. I would just like to hear some feedback on these. My car is mainly daily driver/touring and becoming more and more pro-touring. Thanks

Poly bushings will give you a much harsher ride than del-alum ones will... the polys are so stiff and do not like the solid delrin/aluminum ones act like a bearing.. so bumps are transmitted dirrectly from the road to your ass...
i have del-alum bushings in my 79 malibu.. and aluminum bodumounts by the way, and the ride is awesome.. very honda like, wheels are 17´s btw..
if i were you id give SC&C a call, he is the guy to talk to when pro-touring a g-body...
if you are interested my setup is a s follows:
boxed frame. solid body mounts, SC&C front brace. GW del-alum front UCA & LCA, ATS spindles, touring classics C5 brakes, Currectrac rear UCA & LCA with johnny joints, 1-5/8'' hollow hotchkiss front sway bar, 1'' solid rear bar, GW springs, eibach shocks, 12:1 steering box....
sounds like a recepie for a race car.. but in all honesty it rides nice im my view... not bonejarring or harsh by any means... its no limmo either ;-)

Most guys are saying why would I want to go with solid because they are going to be very harsh. They tell me poly is the way to go on a DD. I am still not convinced either way.
Nice setup you have.. In the future I plan to run the full G-5 Setup front and rear with 17's or 18's.

If you have a 1st gen Camaro with welded in subframeconnectors you must go with solid bushings on the subframe.

there have beed several threads here that compare Del-alum vs. poly and the conclusion to all of them is that poly is a harsher ride.... and i have yet to hear a poly bushing that didnt squeak!

Duece, Did you get the Haulin-Ass-Motorsports aluminum body mounts? Or where did you get yours from?

As for body bushings, solid are fine. Your suspension is responsible for your ride quality, not your body bushings. How much do you think a rubber body bushings is compressing to actually make a noticable difference in ride quality? Very little to non IMO.
What about subframed cars like early Novas and Mustangs that have no body bushings? I think they're getting along just fine. ;)

and i totally agree with the above.... even mercereds are unibodys,, and they ride just fine :unibrow: .. and besides the only thing rubber suspension bushings do in my view is allow your geometry to change under load... screwing with the cambercurve in turns and so on
Del-alum bushings have so little friction they allow your shocks to do their job.. unlike polys that are so stiff that they themselves transmit bumps and noise...

i have alluminum bushings on the body and the ride improved over the stock ones, also added global west subframe connectors.Its alot more rigid, not sloppy.
