Last night I went to look at a 1971 Pontiac Le Mans in the area because the description sounded way too good to be true. Well, it turned out to be just about acurate! The frame is in perfect shape, new suspension components and everything. The body has some dents here and there, and very minor rust holes. The kind you can probably fill in, too small to even warrant a patch. It's been prepped almost completely down to the metal. The engine is a reman'd 30 over chevy 350 that fired right up, has a rebuilt turbo 350 trans, new tires, complete 18 circuit painless wire kit. Minor work to be done, and it's ready for paint. The interior is mostly missing, but that's alright by me. Won't take much to make a running car out of it, and not much more to make a g-machine out of it. I have some pictures I'll stick up when I get home tonight. All in all, I'm pretty excited by the prospect!

Also, I've made a couple of decisions on what I would and would not do, given the chance. First, I would not try for a GTO clone. I may use a GTO hood for the intake scoops, and that they look awesome, but that's about it. No GTO badges. No badges at all, probably.

I'd likely convert from the carb'd 350/auto to an LSx/T56 (the one I already have! ).

I'm still very much undecided on where I'd go with the paint scheme, though...

Ok, I got the pics uploaded. Sorry there're no wider shots. It was packed in there too tight for my lens, I couldn't get back far enough, so I settled for getting pictures of all the trouble spots.

This is pretty much what the body looked like. Overall in good shape!

You can see the new floor pans. I'd need to clean up the welds a bit, but they're in.

The truck lid had some issues at the bottom. Of course, there on top is the brand new 18 circuit Painless wiring kit. Not my first choice, but I'll take it.

A little rust there on the driver's door.

and a little on the passenger door, and that fender has, um, a hole...

The only part that troubled me was the rocker on the passenger side. Someone tried to jack the car up by it. why they didn't just use the frame, which is right there, I'll never know. Think that can be brought out?

And the reman'd 30 over 350 with the rebuilt turbo 350 behind it.

Cool car. Weld in new metal everywhere you have rust. You will be happier.
Floor pans been replaced already? Good for you.

The guys pulled the body off the frame, blasted it, and painted it, too.
