Hey Rick . . . I love the color! When is it out of the shop? I bet you can't wait. The '64 truck went into the body shop today. I'm gonna suede it in black but keep the white contrast on the cab and side moldings. The '65 Burb is in front up on jackstands. Mike and Ed were putting the new lowering springs in yesterday and the spring compressor broke, hurting Ed's hand. He's OK. We're going to finish it tomorrow. Talk to you soon.

I'm sitting here on the couch waitng for Mike to wake up so we can get our butts out there and get those springs in the '65. I've been up since 7:30 . . . so antsy to work on it. I'll let you know how it goes. I got the '57 wagon out this weekend. Man, is the front end screwed up. That pothole did a number on the lower A-arms. Pushed them back about 2 inches. Can's wait to get that Art Morrison frame under that one . . . wanna help? Heehee. Thank you again for the welcome. I'm gonna have fun here.

well i was at the shop today, car is in color and getting rubbed out, i will send the next set of pictures after its buffed out, should be by tuesday, shouldnt be long now.

Hi guys
I need a little advise, its been a few weeks since the car was painted, car looks good but I'm having a little trouble with the final wet sand,the guy that is working on my car sends it out for paint as he has no booth, car was sprayed in a 2 stage paint so theres clear on it, when spraying the clear there is a fair amount of runs on the rocker panels and they seem to have a problem sanding them out, what technique would you use to get rid of them, would you use a small block with maybe 600 gritt paper or? they have mentioned using a razor blade to trim some off then sand, personally i think there blind as bats and i'm getting kinda pissed.

Hi Rick, there's a tool available that uses a razor blade fitted to it to "cut" out the excess material in runs. It's adjustable so that you only take a small amount of paint off with each pass until you almost get to the surface of the actual paint finish. The worry is that most people are a bit ham fisted with using these things & cut into the paint & mark it. I certainly wouldn't recommend just using a razor blade on its own as it's highly likely that unless they're extremely careful they will gouge the paint. The best method really is to use a small block with 1500 grit paper & plenty of soapy water. The worry is that there might not be enough paint on the surrounding area around the runs to rub it out & polish it without going through. Runs on a rocker panel are normally caused because the painter is too lazy to get down low enough to paint it properly, which normally ends in runs or very thin paint application. To be honest, prepare yourself for the worst as if there's not enough paint on the rocker top support flatting it out then repainting is going to be needed. Sorry to be the bearer of possible bad news, but I hope this helps.

Rick the tool you want is called the Run Razor. It works in much the same way as a wood plane does (blade positioned at a very shallow angle). I have never used one myself, however I watched a pro painter do it one time and it works amazingly well.
