I am due orders this summer and have been considering 2 jobs in Florida. Both are with Joint Combatant Commands, just different areas of responsibility and locations. 1 is in Tampa and the other is 5 miles west of Miami Int airport.
Thus I am trying to find out which location would be a better fit. I haven't spent much time in either but have been told they drastically different. I am not looking for a downtown urban lifestyle, the burbs are more my speed.
What are housing prices like in both places? What is the car (read pre-80s) scene like in both places? What do you like about one particular area? What don't you like.
Thanks,
Jim

I live and run my party rental bus out of the tampabay area but spend some time in the miami area too....
I would say tampa(mcdill) is more laid back lost of car things to do couple of drag strips within 15-20 miles.Housing is somewhat OK now compared to a year ago but the insurance is killing us....
Miami I would say is little more on the move housing is a bit expensive cus its miami but if you living far off its not to bad...Most everyone wants shiny new peni$ extensions, ferraris and porsches.(kiddding lol)I would say the car scene is alot bigger in miami though and the night life rocks but costs big $$$

You don't want to live in Miami. Lots of traffic, a little too fast paced, and expensive. My hometown is 15 minutes north of Ft. Lauderdale and 40 minutes north of Miami. I also live in Miami for 9 years. Not too great.
