View Full Version : wilwood rotors not fitting moser rearend?
My axles have a lip that doesn't allow my rotors to fit. They don't fit flush against the axle. It seems like the axles were not machined all the way. I posted a pic. The rotor slides on and then hits the lip it's about 1/8 inch gap between the rotor and axle flange

It is not uncommon to have to do a minor chamfer on the back edge of the rotor. But that looks like it needs more then a camfer.

Had same issue with a Chevelle - Moser 12-bolt and Wilwood combo. Went to a machine shop and had rotors drilled. Also rear axel came with 7/16 studs - had to knock them out and replace with 1/2 studs. All works fine after that and there is little to no play.

Same problem here. The register on the axle flange is too big for the rotor. Brian Schein turned mine to fix it.

If you know you are going to be running chey brakes on ford axels moser will turn them down for you when you order you axels. Just tell them what brake kit you are running and they will make it work.
Spoke with Matt @ Moser, no help pretty much said not my problem talk to who you bought it from. Spoke to Frank @ Prodigy and he was very helpful and gave me the green light to start grinding on the rotors. Don't mind spending some time to make things right, but it's kinda BS when both the rearend and the wilwood kit came from the same place. I mean, rearend drop shipped from moser and the brakes direct buy from moser. Both came from moser. All is good, can't wait to get these brakes mounted up!

My friend said the exact same quote (Project DJ) ordered the brakes (Fr/Rr) from them also at the same time (drop-shipped from Moser and I think he called Moser directly - no middle). Had to turn/hone the rotors and had to replace the wheel studs. Moser sells good stuff Its just nice when they think a little on your behalf (you look to vendors to have some higher expertise/knowledge once and awhile) - if they are sending you a kit with "adjustment required" it would be nice to know up-front. Knowing is half the battle - and little surprises like yours suck. I'd love to have a Moser though! In a week or two you'll be staring at that nice set-up and be very happy ... you can now say you did some custom work on the rear end/brakes.
Grinded down the inside of the rotor and tried to keep the machined diameter. Put about a 45 degree angle on it. Seems to fit well now and the calipers also fit well. Thanks for the input from those who replied.:lateral: I will post some pics of before and after grinding later.

I will be at Moser tomorrow at 2 PM and find out what we can do to get a cleaner transistion at the snout. JY211, have no fear, it is nothing a quick pass with a burr bit won't fix. Most people just get paranoid grinding on their new stuff

is this a 12 bolt or 9 inch
It's a 12 bolt, and hell yah, I was scared to grind on my brand new brakes for my brand new rear end, that was from the same place. But it's done now and fits fine, haven't drove it yet.
Here are some pics of what I did to get the rotors to fit. One pic is before and the other is after. last pic is when it was bolted up done:thumbsup:

The brake hub register shown in the picture represents a step for an OEM 12-Bolt drum brake assembly (2.810"/2.775") (10-Bolt drum applications are 2.775" w/o step). The Wilwood parking brake kits require a hub of 2.780". If you are purchasing "off the shelf" direct replacment 12-Bolt axles from Moser or through a Moser Distributor then this hub will always be to OEM specifications. This problem would also present itself if using your original OEM axles with said kit. If you custom order these axles from Moser and specify for use with a Wilwood kit Moser will turn the hub accordingly at no additional charge.
