View Full Version : Car is home from Autokraft!
Well, the car is back home and I absolutely could not be happier. It turned out well beyond what I was hoping for. It's simply amazing.
I want this thread to be as much about Autokraft as much as it is about the car. The car wouldn't be what it is without their hard work. It was great working with Kurt. I had total trust in him. If he said it needed this or that, I told him to do it. He treated the car like it was his own. He takes incredible pride in his workmanship and it shows. He was always quick to point out what he didn't like (specifically the repo parts) and how he would remedy the situation. We talked regularly, he sent pictures of the progress every week, and towards the end, even more often than that.
Kurt had the car for 4 months, he media blasted it, did some metalwork on the doors, gaps, front end fitment issues, the core support needed some love, custom bent the door bars and rear crossbar, etc. I also had Kurt move the collector on the Stainless steel Kook's headers to better fit the floor. Talk about a shop that can do it all.
In the pictures you'll see an Autokraft license plate on the car. That will be staying there until the day I drive it. I'm extremely proud to say that I'm an Autokraft customer.
And on to the pics...

Scott...the car looks absolutely spectacular!! It's easy to see that Kurt takes enormous pride in his work. My car is in good hands! I can't wait to follow the build.
I was scrolling down looking at your shots and saw the hood in the background. I was wondering if it was mine...then saw the car..lol Very cool pic with the car in the background!

Probably a real endura bumper. If you are not familiar, this was an option in 1969. Rubber (?) coated steel bumper.
Looks great, Scott!

I thought you were crazy for repainting your car the same as it already was. It appeared to be a fantastic looking car from the beginning.

Kurt
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words, everyone. Kurt and Paul are the ones who deserve the praise on the body and paint. I wish the pictures could do it justice.
I should also point out that the carbon fiber chin spoiler isn't done yet, Kurt is going to get a bunch more clear on it this week and get it all smoothed out.
As for the front bumper, it's an endura bumper, they are painted body color. I think it looks great.
Now it's time to start wiring it.

The 4 month stint in the shop is almost as impressive as the car! I took my car to my paint shop in final primer. All it needed was a scuff and shoot..6 months later I had to get ugly just to get my car back. Proffessional shops are few and far between and it looks like you found one.
Good job Kurt!
I really like stock trim on a 69 and the lower chrome and lip moldings really make it stand out. I had to modify my front fenders or I would have done the same to mine.
Get off the computer and start wiring that thing....and make sure you updated the coverage on that car!

Derek, you must have looked in someone else's garage, no Fords at my house. :D I'm sure you saw the enclosed trailer, it's still in my shop driveway.Yeah, I saw the trailer. The attached garage's door was open, but I didn't see your truck, otherwise I would have stopped in. This was around 4:30-5:00 yesterday.
I thought it looked like a Ford SUV in the garage, but I could be wrong... had a couple beers earlier. :_paranoid
A neighbor of yours (green house half a block south of your place) is selling an 84 GMC 1-ton crew-cab dually I took a look at. It looked very nice in the pictures... up close, not so much.
My wife has a dark blue Saturn Outlook.
I know the truck that you're talking about, but I've never been up close to it.

The interior won't see a lot of changes... DSE dash, Recaro seats with Marquez door panels covered to match. The rear seat will be recovered to match the front seats, too. That's about it, nothing crazy or over the top.

It would be awesome to flog it at BIR. Did I hear that they shortened the long straight?
Kurt finished the work on the carbon fiber chin spoiler this week. I figured I should post a few pics of it because it was pretty raw in the pics that I posted when I picked the car up. It looks amazing now!
Oh, and it's not bolted on the car (you can see it hanging dpown on the right side), I just used a pair of spring clamps to hold it on for pics. I won't bolt it on until I'm done rolling the floor jack under the car.
