I just ran across a 1975 Lincoln Mark IV that looks like it has the 9 inch rear end with disc brakes. Does anyone have any info on this thing. I'm looking at it for my 67 Firebird. Is it in fact a 9 inch? Will I have to narrow it? Did these come with posi? The disc brake setup is making it hard to pass up. I know the Lincoln Versailles rear end is good to go, but I have not heard much about these. Thanks :)

The Mark IV and Versailles are pretty much the same... with the noteable difference being that the Versailles is based off of the mid size Granada platform.

Yes it is a 9". I not positive that the Mark IV housing is all that much different (I dont have one at my finger tips right now) but I believe that it is 2 inches wider than the 67 f-body housing dimentions. I know that the Versailles is 2 inches narrower than the OE 67 f-body differential housing. The real bummer is they utilize 28 spline axles. They were however, available with a traction lock differential. But the carriers weakness is the bolt crown of the side cover and are the major weak points next to its 28 spline axles.

The brake system on the Mark IV and Versailles are not all that stellar though. Considering that you will need to put axles into it, change the posi out to something that will not fail and a stong possibly of having to narrow the housing... its not really all that cost effective when you really look at it.

I was figuring on having to narrow and upgrade it, and was thinking I could save some cash on a disc brake setup. I don't think it's going to cost too much for it since it's at a pick and pull place. Thanks for the info. :hail:
