oil catch can querys

hey guys

i have a 79 c10 350 sb chev pick up, semi pro touring, air ride, big brakes wheels etc.

i am wanting to install a oil catch can and am going to run 2x pcv valves and run the lines from those to the oil catch can with a breather on it.

my question is should i remove the balls and springs from the pcv valves to guarantee there abilty to breath.or will it be ok with them still in. they do flow through when you blow through them but im just a bit worried it wont be enough and it might create to much internal pressure.

i know the best way would be to get new valve covers and get nice fittings welded on but i will do that a bit later on.

They make fittings that fit in your grommets with no pcv valve. Jegs.com

take you grommets out and put a nice AN style bulkhead fitting in the covers with a jam nut and plastic o ring onthe bottom. Then you can run regular an style fitting and line......:thumbsup:

That is exactly what I am doing Travis, except I drilled the hole for mine. Thought he wanted to keep the budget down. AN **** gets expensive! Ask me how I know.

I would not eliminate the PCV valve and run breathers only... the PCV, by drawing fresh air through the crankcase helps prevent condensation and buildup of unwanted combustion byproducts in the oil.

Breathers only let crankcase pressure escape, but do not create an active flow of fresh air through the engine to help keep the oil clean.

It would be OK to run a hose to a catch can & breather, but I would still want a PCV hooked up.

yea i thought the standard pcv valves would be ok but then see the other fittings that just breath straight through so thought i should remove the ball and spring from them??

I do not think it would be wise to remove the ball and spring as you will create a huge vacuum leak. The PCV valve is actually a controlled vacuum leak and with it wide open you will have problems idling correctly.
