The names Wesley im 20 and ive been working on my 68 camaro since i was 14, and yea im starting to realize what everyone was telling me was true, take the amount of time and money your wanting to spend and double it and thats close to what your going to put into it. So far the modifications are full hotchkis tvs system, all bushings have been replaced with poly or alluminum, Qa1 adjustable shocks on all 4 corners and wilwood 4 piston disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors up front. Engine is a 40 over 350 i built when i was 14 with a comp magnum 270 cam edelbrock intake and carb, hooker headers. Transmission is a turbo 350 with racing clutches and a btm full manual valve body. The rear end used to be a 4.56 posi which i drove the car to school with every day for the last half of my senior year and the only reason i didnt drive it sooner was thats when i finally got the car street legal. now the rear ends has 3.36 richmond gears and mosier axles. The body is pretty stock nothing really big changed just smoothing some seams and little things, the car was minitubbed but i got ripped off for $1400 so i tore all the junk out and redid it all myself when i was 17, i dont think i do too bad of a job, its not even in the ball park of what it was that was a descrace to camaro's everywhere. The cars going to be 2005 corvette silver with black stripes and probably vintage wheel works vintage 48 wheels with a black center and polished lip. Tell me what you think or if you have any helpful hints, this is my first project of this size so any hints or tips will be appreciated. Just wondering am i the only one that gets messed with about cutting up a classic and not going back to all original?

If you were talking about an ultra-rare Yenko or something, I would be against cutting it up. Hot rodders everywhere have been taking it on the chin for not keeping their projects stock, but look at the amazing results of their work!

I think of these cars as works of art, not monuments to the past. It sounds like you are creating a car that fits your needs, not something designed for the masses 30 years ago. I say good for you. I also think its cool that you were building a motor at 14 years old. I was still greasing the chain on my bicycle at that age!

Thats exactly what i tell them, I'm trying to build the car just how i want it because im the one that drives it every day. Everyones entitled to their opinions though, i was just wondering if it was just me that got that comment at the cruises.

Haha yea i know i personally think i did the car a favor, disc brakes, better suspension, and a v8. All upgrades in my book

unless your car was something like a yenko or original numbers matching z28, you shouldnt worry about chopping it up...
from what it sounds like, you already have a pretty good idea of what you want. just be sure to take your time with things like the wheels and color and stuff, just because the more stuff you see the more your own opinoin changes.

Ive already bought the paint and its 05 corvette silver and its going to have black stripes and i really like the classic ccw wheels or the fikse that look like them but there kinda pricey for me right now so im probable going to end up going with a set of Vintage Wheel works 17x8 and 17x10 Vintage 48's and powdercoat the centers black and leave the lips polished. Im into the vintage race car look so thats kind of what im going for. Im doing the entire interior in black suede and leather so when i get more panels and things done ill post some pics and get some opinions.
