I'm getting ready to fit the WD C5 subframe to the car (69 Camaro), and need to make a decision on the coilovers, for the front.

The car has a DSE Quadralink setup installed out back.

Any recommendations on coliover brands and types / options?

I'm looking at Koni, QA1, and Strange so far. Since the DSE Qlink has Koni's, I'm tempted to go that route and have Koni's all-round but, I don't want to ignore the offerings from the others, either...especially since the fronts will have the most influence on the handling characteristics...

I am thinking in the range of 475-500 Lb/in springs, since the engine is an iron block, and the weight of the turbos, etc... there is a lot of weight up front... -Rob

Not sure if this is helpful or not but my Art Morrison subframe came with Strange coilovers and 550 lb springs. It was specified for an LSx engine. Unfortunately I have not completed the project so I cannot say anything about performance. Then again, even if it was finished I'm not sure I could give any worthwhile performance feedback...

Use what the C5R and C6R Le Mans cars use.

Penske 8300 series. (http://www.penskeshocks.com/)

Thanks, Don, that is good info...It may be that I need even stiffer springs, since my setup surely weighs in at quite a bit more than a typical LSx setup...

Hey Rob,

if you are running Koni's in back i'd recommend the same for the front. Make sure you do a ride height mock up to be sure you pick the right range coil over and spring length.

550's are a great starting point.

Thanks Vince, yes that is my intention; I will mock up first before ordering...I am leaning towards Koni's, for the front.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a related question. I bought a WD C4 Sub from Andy Hoffman and it came with single adjustable QA-1's. The springs on it are only 300's. That seems awful soft to me compared to what DSE uses on their sub and what everyone is recommending for the C5 frames.

What do you guys think?

My Art Morrison max-G frame has the C-5 front suspension. I went with double adjustable Strange shocks front and rear. The rear suspension is a 4 link/watts. Just finished. My starter springs are 500# front and 150# rear. This is a 70 A-body, and should be in the neighborhood of 3300#. As soon as its possible, Ill post some pics.

Rob, I can understand wanting to match the rears, brand wise...I felt the same way and bought QA1 for the front as that's what I started with on the rear a couple years prior.

I'm sarting with:
550# front DSE recommended 575# but QA1 didn't offer them at that time.
200# rear

Hey Tony, I was talking with Frank Serafine the other day and he managed to work a deal for me on a set of Strange D/A coliovers (same as what ships with the AM sub) w/550 lb springs as a starting point...should have them soon. Thanks to all for your input, -Rob
