Hey guys,

I'm getting down to the last of my sheetmetal work and one of the things on my list of "Things to do" is to install a flush mount electric antenna mounted to the right rear quarter panel. A fairly long time ago, I had a neighbor who had a 68 Camaro and the guy who painted it installed an antenna from a Corvette. The antenna was completely flush when the antenna was retracted. Very trick. He told me that the guy used some kind of impact tool to pull a pocket into the sheetmetal and then he just ground the antenna ball flush with the top of the quarter panel. Once it was painted, the antenna virtually disappeared when retracted. Is anyone familiar with this process or have any other tricks to do the same? Because I want it mounted in the trunk I need it to be weather proof. Any help is appreciated.

mrfixit, You've got Your body slick, why poke holes? Hide a small flextenna under the dash or under rear package tray. It works.I have used the invisible
12Volt pwrd type , with not the best result. Hope this helps. Jimmy

AMEN!! Your neighbor probably did it when all the street rodders were doing it and then it went the way of sawblade wheels and flush import door handles. It looks like a little paint defect when retracted and anytime you're driving, it looks like a mast that grew out of your quarter. Bad and worse.

That's what makes this such a great hobby ... everyone is free to express himself in the cars that they build  . Personally, I like flush antenna. It is unobtrusive and functional. I've heard negative things about the hidden antennas. That they get poor reception. I'm not into CDs or MP3s too much so a good radio signal means a lot.
