Mini-tubs

I've decided to go the mini-tub route. I was looking at the Detroit Speed website and saw the minitub kit for 67 camaro was $1,320. I was wondering if there are more company that have kits for a cheaper price and will the kit be the only thing I need to worry about if I want to go with a wider wheel? Any info is much appreciated

You will need to narrow your back seat and buy a new narrowed gas tank.

That is just for the tubs. The kit costs 1320.

whoa you forgot the biggest one narrowed rear end......

if keeping leafs you need offset shackles and narrow tank 5 inches
or do 4 link of some type and narrow fuel tank
if you do the work yourself its worth doing the 4 link, as its not that much more money and alot easier to tune.

i guess your right, but in my case that was the whole point of it.. the fat tires with the big lip on the rim....I just faced the facts... there was no cheap way around it.. time i did it wheels tires, mini tub kit rear end, I spent over 7 geez..

Not to be the smart ass that I am...but if you ONLY wanted the deep dish, new wheels and a narrowed rear would have done that..

I also wanted fat tires..... something 315 or bigger..... no way that will fit without mini tubs......

Wow! $7,000 just to get the mini-tubs? I may have to put that off for a while and just get some 9.5 inch wheels for the time being. Why is it that this site does not have many 67-68s with minitubs? There are a few, I guess it may be because there are more 69s on the site huh?

I've just finished installing the DSE mini-tubs in my 68. I found several pictures on 67-68 with tubs on the "Members Rides" page. Regardless, the procedure is the same for 67-69.

There are just WAY more PT 69's than 67-8's...but were're working on that!! ;)

Yep. My 68 will be back from the body man Saturday, then off it goes to get the tubs installed.

$7K is actually pretty reasonable for everything that he mentions there.

Wheels - $2 to $4K comes pretty quick
Tires - $1 to $1.5K for decent tires is easy
Mini Tub Kit -$1.3K plus shippping
Shocks - $0.2K minimum
Rear End - $1K depending on what you need

So you can easily get to $7 thousand without including labor or brakes, depending on what you expect for the finished product. The easiest part of any project is underestimating what it will cost.

Mini tubbing is a expensive decision. I think it's one of the key factors to the killer cars however. 7k that cheap to mini tub. Let me do a tally.

Wheels and tires: 5k
G Bar: 1600
Moser 2750
Labor:2500 minimum
Ricks tank or similar: 800
More like 11k-14k to do it like the top notch cars around here.:_paranoid

Oh ya and if you are going to spend that kind of money on a mini tub well the rest of the project has to be on the same level. Take your budget and double it and you are close. haha New guys are you listening.

Intro wheels and tires and a mini tub kit for under 4k . You must have done it yourself and narrowed a stock tank. Details.:yes:

I already had the Intro wheels but sent the rear ones in and had the center hoop removed and installed in the widest wheel they had for that style. I found a guy that did a lot of tub/roll cage work for race cars and showed him the installation video and he quoted me really low on the labor. He knew a guy that did excellent tig welding so I purchased a new stock tank and had them narrow it. It turned out really well and I lost about 3 gallons of fuel space. Other than the mini tub kit itself my biggest cost was the new Michilen tires :rolleyes: Yeah, I'm in Oklahoma where you won't see too many 1st gen camaros with a DSE mini tub kit and lowered 3" with Intro wheels but a buddy of mine is getting ready to go ALL OUT with his 69 camaro build. Can't wait to see him get started with it.. All you have to do is shop around for guys to install your DSE kit.. The guy that did mine had never done one but did an excellent job.. It turned out really nice.. I couldn't have been more pleased...I am using a stock rearend so when I ordered my rear wheels I had most of the offset to the inside. About the only thing that I had to do was reset the angle on my pinion.. I do have pics of the tank if anyone wants to see them...

Sorry for the delay in my response. I did all the work myself so all it cost me was the $399 for the tubs, some grinding disks and sawsall blades. It took me about forty hours to complete it.

I have a friend that did the same thing on the tank as well. there is a company making the factory stamping tank in Stainless Steel, which tig welds way better that the stock one with the galv. coating..... it goes for 199.00 new... I just needed the space so I went with a ricks tank..... i only get 9 mpg with a TKO....

I know what you mean by needing the space. I am running a stock rearend and with the 3" drop I like to never got my 3" tailpipes back in there. I had to do some tweaking to make them fit again but man it sounds so much better with the tail pipes on... not much clearance between the framerail and the springs either but they are in there....
