The thing is downright scary in its acceleration....an absolute monster. It looks even better in person, and the wheels could be the best design on a production car ever. Money well spent...
Man, I what I wouldn't give to hear it doing WOT blasts on the north-south straightaway.
GM rated the C6ZO6 at a top speed of 198. Has anything been said of the top speed of the ZR-1? Just curious as it makes A LOT more power.

Scott, from the performance tab on the chevrolet site - * With its 600+ horsepower LS9 supercharged V8, ZR1 is capable of 200+ mph on the test track
That is my favorite Vette to date! Can't wait to see what the other automakers do to try and compete... I so want to see the new ZR1 and Skyline on the TRACK!!!!!

Yeah, but how much over 200mph? :D There quite a few videos on Youtube with guys topping out their ZO6's, so it's only a matter of time before we see what this beast can do.

The exposed carbon fiber is killer!

I'm sure the rotors and calipers are real cheap, too. :willy:

Actually...Those exact same brakes are a $20,000 option on a Ferrari 599 (According to the Corvette Chief Engineer) 15" out back, and 15.5 up front..Carbon-Ceramic....and here is another interesting quote from the Detroit Free Press...
"It took years to develop the clearcoat for the carbon-fiber because sunlight degrades the material over time. The coating, which only the ZR1 has, uses a special additive to prevent that. The additive alone costs $60,000 a gallon, while the mixture of clearcoat and additive applied to the roof costs $2,200 a gallon."
100K is a bargain...of course, they will probably be selling for 200K+
I am also digging the CF. Did anybody notice the oil squirters and dowels for the crank on a production block? WOW...

I remember when I first saw carbon rotors on a porsche I had to see how much they were to replace and it was something like 3k a piece. Cant remember the exact cost. I though it was the dumbest idea ever but reading through the specs on this car the rotors are supposed to last the life of the car!

According to a guy who works for Eaton (Eaton makes the blower) his buddy made 750hp with a 1.9L blower on his truck. The ZR-1's blower is a 2.3L so more power is well within reach!

..That is SO glad to see GM taking the time and effort to do such awesome display / photographic work like that again (exploded views etc) like they used to do back in the day? Hat's off to whomever had to do all of that work (and of course David Kimble's cross section artwork never disappoints, either!) -Rob

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The LS9 uses the largest blower ever built to date by Eaton. The supercharger is a 2300ci unit. The 1900ci unit that was tested on the LS2 put out over 700 hp with something like 8 psi of boost. The LS9 made in the neihborhood of 900hp on pump gas with a 50 state legal emissions tune. This thing should be a MONSTER if GM allows it to be. Only time will tell. And you can bet it won't be advertised with the figure listed above, but it is capable.
this was quoted from another member in another thread about the ls9. not sure of the truth of it but if it is we are in for a badass from gm

I know there are quite a few, but there most definitely that can explain them better than I can. The most obvious one is that the LS7 is a 7.0L and the LS9 is a 6.2L.

Chevrolet has 5 of their ZR1 mules at VIR (Virginia International Raceway) yesterday and today along with many other vettes playing around. An instructor buddy of mine at VIR told me the stock Z06's were doing ok keeping up in the corners with the ZR1 due to lighter weight, but it was obvious the ZR1 had alot more power down the straights.

It's a cool car, but in no way worth what chevy and the dealerships are gonna charge for it. I'm sure many of us here can build a car that will out perform it for much less.

Not trying to be rude but, that’s a completely ridiculous statement.

There is no one here that can build it for less money and perform better. Not even close.

I was never a big advocate of this car when I first heard of it's development. I have always taken the stance that we should have refocused the millions that would be spent towards hybrid/battery technology. We already had the ZO6 and the base model Corvette, why a third? I won't argue that it's a phenomenal car and probably scary fast...but we had (and still have) other pressing issues facing our corporation that are much more important than having a Super Corvette.
If the Corvette, Corvette ZO6, and C5 Camaro aren't enough to "generate excitement for the Chevrolet brand" then our problems at General Motors are a lot more complicated than first thought.
Again...it's a great car, but now was not the time for it.
Anyway...that's my $.13 on the subject. :captain:

awesome car!! i just bought a 2008 z06. if i was going to buy one, i would wait for a while because the dealer markup is going to be insane!! i love my z, not much if anything around here(where i live) can touch it. i would love to own a zr-1. maybe someday. talking about top speed, there are guys on youtube that have had their z06s doing 205 mph. the zr-1 is rated at 638 hp. there are also a few guys that have bolted a procharger on and are making over 700 hp at the crank and around 630 at the wheels in a stock z06 at only 6 lbs. of boost.:woot: :woot:

Cool car. Gotta love the LS motors. Amazing with little mods how much more hp you gain. Enjoy the car.

All very good points. Although I do think the car is awesome, I do agree with what you are saying. Even though it is limited in production, the cost to develop it must have been huge. And with all the financial trouble auto makers are having lately, that money could have been better spent on other technology.
