got to tell someone, so it might as well be my "second family". He was just notified that he was accepted into engineering at Cornell, his first choice. My wife and I are so proud.

Not sure how we'll pay for it.................. :faint: but we'll figure something out.

Congrats Jody! You must be very proud!

I did some of my Mech and Aero Eng undergrad stuff at Cornell, great school.

It will be tough having him so far from home...

Ithaca is a great party town!!! (Whoops...I mean, everyone there is very buttoned-down, and very reserved...um...yeah...:D )

What Engineering major?

Congratulations Jody...
Good stuff like this does not happen by accident.
Someone has done a great job raising that young man.
You should be proud:)

Pretty cool. Being a student and having two other brothers in college also, I know how hard school can be on parents. I suggest you push him to register for every possible grant/scholarship/etc he can find.

As a side note;

Princeton, Yale & Penn were on my shortlist for schools wanting me to play football for them. Unfortanutely I am all broken & crippled or else I might be at one of 'em. Plus they weren't offering scholarships. :(

Also forgot, Aero is a pretty cool deal. I am in for Mech. Engineering, but I am still contemplating Aero. Make sure he chooses the one he likes the best. It will help him ten-fold...

That is awesome news Jody! I have good friends at Cornell and Ithaca across the pond, they love it!

My word of advice on the aid. Whatever package they give you, DONT ACCEPT IT! Push them for more! There is always a bit more money to get and it will make a big difference in the end.

I am paying for college, but it is an investment, and at a school like Cornell it is certainly worth the investment!

Freshmen year was my worst for grades and adjustment, make sure he is ready to hit the ground running, and make sure he packs about 60 winter coats haha!

CONGRATS TO YOU AND YOUR SON!!!

Big Congrats to your son!, My boss is the grandson of the founder of Cornell University....He's a Civil Engineer/Vice President "Howard Cornell" of David Evans and Associates.

Congrats! That is awesome.

I can attest to Tim's comments. My first year in Engineering school was the toughest socially/personally. Thinking back, I could have gotten much better grades. The classes weren't what got to me. It was all of the life adjustments.

Being away from family

Not being able to work in the garage with Dad! - seriously, I struggled with having a stress release. I started tinkering with computers and Nitro RC cars just to keep my sanity.

And then I found - SAE

Big plug for the SAE programs. If he's into that sort of thing (probably a good assumption). I would highly recommend the Formula or Baja SAE program.

Sorry, I was getting excited for him! I'm sure he will have an awesome experience. My days at Purdue were some of the best. Tell him to take some time to enjoy himself. It's easy to get wrapped up in all of the schoolwork!

Congrats again to your family

Congratulations you must be very proud. I can't tell you how happy I was when the tested my daughter who's only in 1st grade and she was at top percentage of the scores.

Pretty cool -- once again - Congratulations.

ps - any chance your going to have a fire sale on that Malibu

Congrats to you and your son Jody !!! All the way from CA and accepted at Cornell. Have been there many times as Ithaca/Cayuga Lake was a weekend stomping ground many a time. Cornell is an excellent engineering school. Plus, I agree with BC - there are so many endowment funds at Cornell, you should be able to get some relief. Engineering is a great field to get in to.

Congrats again.

Jody good news for you and your family.

Kids grew up quick, good education is real important. It will be hard work and a lifeboosting experience to be away from home.

My two kids are at university in two different cities away from home, it made them more adults over night.

From my experience I can tell that you will gain a lot in the daily expenses account when he moves, I'll bet it will cover a big part of the fee.
