I wonder if anybody here have mounted a pair of Air over shocks on a first gen Camaro?? How did i t fit??
I would likte to mount a set of airbags on my -68 but doesnt like the thing that i have to move the shocks to the outside of my control arms.
Thats why il started to look at air over shocks but i still have to cut in my subframe to get them in there.
I have seen that some hot rods have mounted these up side down. Is it anyone that tried this and can tell me how it works!!

there is a minimal amount of cutting required to fit our (Air Ride Technologies) Shockwave units into a first gen Camaro. GM rolled the lip of the subframe around the spring pocket, and that is what needs to be removed as we are using a 6.5-inch air spring that will rub the roll if left uncut. The material removed does not reduce the structural integrity of the subframe.
I'll let "non biased" members post on installation fitment, part quality, and whatnot.

we have done a few of these and cutting out the pocket to fit these is no big deal at all. You just have to trim just over a inch for the bag to clear everything. Its not a big deal at all and you will love the imporved ride. Just take your time and mock the bag in the pocket and trim.
dont over cut your pockets, you may need to install and uninstall them a few times to get them perfect. I try to give about a 1/2 inch of clearance so the bags can never rub on anything. Usually you can mount these up or down as Air Ride should agree on here. I have done them both ways and you dont notice anything different about it.
You will love the look and the ride once you get them in there its well worth it.

So if its not a problem to mount them upside down, it should be better because then i dont have to cut anything at all...
But maybe its something else that ****s up then... regarding the shocks for example!! Is it anyone that really tried this whit good results.

I think no matter what way you mount them you will have to do some cutting, it might not be as bad one way or the other but usually when doing air you have to cut to keep the bag away from all objects. The other problem I can see you having is the bag might hit the sway bar if mounted upside down and that would be worse. Mock it up there both ways and go through all the suspension movments so you can see if it will clear everything. measure twice cut once it always works out better that way.

Hmm... u got a point there... i didnt thought about the swaybar!!

We have a kit like that (called a CoolRide kit). you can see it here:

However, you have the same problem; you'll have to cut the subframe. Same bag, same location, same problem.
The additional problem is if you plan on running wide front wheels they may hit the shock absorber, as it will be mounted behind the a-arms.

I have some of the larger shockwaves and a new set of the slimmer new shockwaves which i am wondering if I can fun up front cause they are QA1 adjustables from Air Ride Tech.....

The best solution for people that don't want to cut their subframe, have upgraded parts on it already, and want Air Ride is to get the new Speed Tech upgraded factory replacement frame.
You can use all the control arms, spindles and sway bar that you currently use, and then get the ability to bolt on Shockwaves, plus R&P steering. Look into it as an alternative to cutting on your frame.

so long as the bags and the dampers are the same, you can use the older QA1 set up front. The bag is the same (6.5" diameter), and the shock length should be the same (if the QA1 version was intended for the First Gen).
