For Sale: 1967 Chevy II Nova, "II Much". Popular Hot Rodding Cover Car (October 2007). II Much has had significant magazine coverage (exhaust, front suspension, rear suspension, engine, etc.) over the past several years. It sports a sleeved and stroked LS2 (427 cid) that makes 600 hp, a TKO 600 5 sp, and a Moser 9 inch rear. It has a Katz Tsubai custom designed track-proven suspension, Wilwood brakes, a custom race-inspired interior, and flawless paint.
The car is equally happy cruising down the highway and going 160mph on the race track. You can have fun at your local autoX showing the Miata boys that muscle cars can compete, and at the local car show showing the numbers-matching crowd something they haven't seen before.
Technical specs are below.

I knew this day was coming and I'm with Scott...I'm VERY glad I was able to see II Much in person at SEMA! It's an increadable car and was very fun seeing it built over the years! Good luck John and I hope it goes to someone that will truely enjoy it (use it!).

I Know the feeling your having John. Same reason I sold the 57 to start the now never ending 55:D I'm sure it is a bitter sweet thing about selling it, but sometimes it as much fun building them as driving them. I'm glad I was able to see it in person at SEMA. Workmanship and quality is second to none. Truely a work of art.

OMG, you just finished it. I thought you would keep it a little longer than that.
I'm sure you will not have a problem selling it & I'm sure your next project will be even better.
BTW what will the next project be?

Anthony and Brent, thanks very much.
Yeah, selling the car is a bit of an emotional struggle, but the joy was in the journey. It only seems like it was just done ... I've had the car running for well over a year, and spent the summer tuning the car for serious track use. The fall was spent getting it ready for SEMA and PRI, and so now it's time to let it go.
I'm hopeful someone will buy it as a fun toy to play with. I wouldn't mind doing that myself, but after more than a year of play, I want to build something again. As I mentioned above, I don't have the resources to do both.
I don't know what my future project will be yet. I've looked at the Factory Five GTM. What an awesome car that would be. I know of a nice Pantera. Imagine that with an LS7! Maybe a later model Nova (I know of one that was used by DSE as their prototype for developing their minitubs). Or maybe something else entirely.
Time will tell. I gotta sell this one first!

OMG John !!
I really enjoyed all your build coverage, the story and all the ride-along video. The result was an amazing car. Seeing what you did gave me the courage to jump into my project and do it myself ! I can only hope for a small percentage of your success - and that is still setting the bar high.
Thanks for the motivation and - Best of luck selling her ! Like they said, it will go quickly.

I thought I might get the opportunity to see the car in person this weekend at PRI. I'm going to be flying into Tampa to visit my Mom this weekend. I have a pass to PRI (you know just in case the wife would let me sneak away for a day) ------ No Dice!
I guess I'll have to lay by the pool and drink a few beers. I'd much rather be at the show.

While no where near the caliber of your creation, I just sold my PRO/Street Chevy-II-Much tribute ( http://www.ASPerformance.net ) to help fund the build of my new Race Car Replicas GT40.
Check out some of their cars at http://www.racecarreplicas.com ... If you'd like any information not available on their website, feel free to email or PM me.
The all alloy TIG welded chassis and true billet suspension parts are a work of art.
Their fiberglass quality makes the Factory Five fiberglass on the coupes and roadsters I've built look like a high-school project gone bad..
Best of luck in the sale!

No sale at PRI. I had (have? Not sure the negotiations are dead yet) two decent conversations with potential buyers there.
Next, I'm going to talk with the guys over at Mecum Auctions. They've got a kind of mini-Barrett-Jackson thing here in central Florida in late January. (thanks Jeff!).

Well, time flies. This is Mecum week for the car. Right now, it's on Frank's trailer and headed to Kissimmee. It will spend the rest of the week in the "Feature" indoor area, then goes on the block Saturday evening.
Kudos to Frank (Prodigy Customs) for the lift!!
I've owned a *lot* of cars over the years, and have only missed one (my post-high school 69 GTO) when I sold it. After driving this one a lot over the past couple of weeks, I may miss it too. It won't be the end of the world if it doesn't sell.
I'm thinking A/C, some more CF pieces, maybe switch the wheels around, etc.
We'll see.

There sure aren't many heavily modified cars here, so we'll see how it's received. At least one fellow is going to bid on the car, (at least that's what he told me).

No bidders. The car ran 1 1/2 hours later then it was supposed. It was rainy, cold, nasty, miserable all day, the rain never let up and by nearly 10PM when it ran there was simply no one there. No sellers were very happy by that time. So the $65K was not a real number, just the auctioneer babbling. They do a lot of that at Mecum, acting like there is money when there is none trying to snag a real buyer with no one to bid against.
Besides the horrible weather, quite honestly we were simply at the wrong place. This was a original restored muscle car auction if I ever seen one. With 1000 cars? on the property, there were only 5 higher end Pro Touring cars and not one of them brought what they wanted except for possibly one sale, after the sale deal that is not finished but looks real good. So, while there were lots of atttaboys and connections, it was just the wrong place. There were plenty of stock Camaros with TT2s badged as "Resto mods", and they did OK, but most were rough at best. If you had a non matching, incorrect, 69 Camaro with SS badges and a Rally Sport grill (no back up lights required), driver paint, some rally wheels, and chrome CHEVROLET valve covers, you would get $30K in a blink for a $18K car. There were some off the hook real numbers, concourse cars, some did OK, but most wanted all the money and a bag of chips. I think to many watched Barrett last week and forgot they were at Disney World now!
John had a few real offers that got dangerously close, he and I discussed it before parting last night. He had drawn a line in the sand he would sell it for, looks like that line is still firm.
FWIW, When we unloaded the cars before the auction, John and I were discussing what changes we are going to do to the car after the auction, and was already making arrangements to get the cars home. I think there is a high likely hood you will see some styling subtle changes to II Much, Maybe some Foose Nitrous wheels, some polished billet, maybe a GMC blower, some wild graphics, etc.............................................Or ................ possibly some minor little ornament changes and treatments!
I for one am pushing for him to keep the car, even though I must admit I am really excited about the possibility working with him on a full scrath build. So I might just have nearly as many mixed emotions about II Much as John, LOL! But the bottom line is it is a great car, and I hope he decides to beat on it a while. He has a new best friend that owns a hot rod shop, so if he chips it or scrathes it up a bit, it probably is nothing a pint of paint and a 12 pack wont fix!
parsonsj
01-27-2008, 08:05 AM
It was sure an interesting day. The auction was very well run, and it seemed like the entire Mecum staff stopped by to see the car and wish me luck when it went on the block.
There's no getting around the fact that the final bid price was very disappointing ($65k). As Frank said, it rained all day, the auction times fell behind, and the number of bidders dwindled significantly during the evening. By the time my car went, the bidding section was only 1/3 or 1/4 as numerous as it was earlier.
There are still a couple of deals percolating that might get to my number, so we'll see how that plays out.
But it is what it is. I'm considering some small styling changes to make the car more appealing to mainstream buyers. Or not. I'll spend the day fixing my attic fan in my house, and see what happens.
Thanks again for all the well wishes! It means a lot.

Hey John,
I'm sorry that it didnt sell, I thought it would.. but then again you shouldnt complain much keeping such a piece of nice homemade machinery in your garage.
what about starting another (PANTERA) build anyway? I know it would have been easier with $$$ in the pocket but when you get tired of listening to the TIG you can just take II for a spin and listen to sweet music.....

I read all this as good news... trailer queen turns into driver! !!
I would not use trailer queen and II Much in the same sentence. I dare to bet II Much has more street miles then many other Pro Touring cars, John drives it quite a bit back and forth to my shop, a good 30 miles each way. And damn sure has more autocross and track time then most Pro Touring cars.
I am sure you were not meaning anything, and meant it different, so have no fear. I just felt I should aggressively defend any possibility of that label.

I'm gonna try to sell the car again.
I've added A/C, switched the rear end to a True Trac, swapped the rear suspension rod ends to Spohn Del-Spheres, tidied up the engine tune, worked all the bugs out of the clutch, and integrated my iPhone into the stereo.
The car starts easily, runs all day in the Florida heat with frosty cold air coming from the vents, and can out-handle new Corvettes on the race track.
Oh, and one more thing: a new price: $99K.
