It's going to have to be at least 650hp if they are going to stay on top of the new horsepower war, right?

Wow indeed. They certainly have managed to make the total package very low-profile (height).

Hey Scott,
Don't you start thinking about that, you are almost done with your car. We don't want to see another change that will delay it even more.
But it will be a great motor for a '69 Camaro or even in a COPO 5th gen

The guy who wrote the article must have it wrong.
First who mounts a supercharger below the intercooler on a V8?
Secondly it looks like a ProCharger type blower in front of the left side cylinder head.
Jan
it looks like they have done some fun things with the air flow. it goes into the supercharger then UP through the IC then out the sides to the heads. VERY cool!

I agree - look at the accessory belt width on the passenger side, then the wide belt on the dvr side looped around some sort of supercharger. I would prefer an actual screw charger for shear grunt v. a belt driven turbo, but it is definitely the way to get the tight package.
Intercooler before the charger, what a moron that guy is. But, HEY, WHO BROUGHT IT TO YOU FIRST??

It looks like they took alot of the design ideas from the supercharged northstar engine that is in the XLR V's

It's a twin-screw supercharger.
The blower pulley can be seen on the image that just depicts the intake/heat exchanger unit (it's at the bottom). GM are utilizing a system very similar to what's on the S281-E mustangs, where-in the supercharger is slung underneath your "intake" and the hot discharge air is blown up through the heat exchangers and then down into the cylinder heads on either side.

The LS9 uses the largest blower ever built to date by Eaton. The supercharger is a 2300ci unit. The 1900ci unit that was tested on the LS2 put out over 700 hp with something like 8 psi of boost. The LS9 made in the neihborhood of 900hp on pump gas with a 50 state legal emissions tune. This thing should be a MONSTER if GM allows it to be. Only time will tell. And you can bet it won't be advertised with the figure listed above, but it is capable.

uh yeah, my bad  I went back to pg1 to hit the link and saw the third pic posted again, with the more than obvious pulley. Looking at the engine shot I thought it was an idler, but seeing that makes it obvious and yep, just like the Fords. Good eye. I thought the pulley driven "charger" looked damn small  but I just took that ball and ran with it anyway.

hahaha.... Amen to that! Poor Viper just got ahead for 08 too but now back to the drawing boards for SRT... The 08 Viper is a badass car but, LS9>Viper.
Nice thing is I'm sure LS9 components can be used on all the LS based engines.
