View Full Version : Sorting out the car

Well so far the weekend has been pretty good. The car has only little issues at this point, but those should quickly go away. The water injection is lightly leaking. The wheels have to go, and Ill post photos when I get them. I get a vibration above 100mph and I can tell it's the wheels. So I'm sorting out the car, and who pulls up next to me in his vette but Aris "ill Steez" on highway. We give the cars a quick run though the gears and it was fun. He yells at me from a stop light and tells me who he is. He has a nice zo6 c6. It's funny how this forum has people everywhere. Good to meet you on the road Aris. See you again soon.
But the car is almost there, just a few tweaks here and there.

Hey glad to hear it is turning around for you luck wise. Hope it just keeps getting better. So the big question is did you pull him or not?...:D

Thanks for that. It's coming along. Well I don't know how hard he was going though. He might not at been at full tilt.

Concerning the wheel/tire vibration... have a knowledgeable operator of a Hunter GSP9700 roadforce balancer run all your wheels & tires through the roadforce/runout variation matching sequence.

I have seen tires that otherwise look fine have excessive roadforce variations. They balanced fine on a standard spin balancer but shook like crazy once installed on the vehicle... slapped it on a Hunter and found the tire was defective.

That could be a problem as well. I know one of my wheels has 40 thousands run out, and the other has 20. On the dyno I can see the run out on one of them, that's why I'm going with all new wheels and rubber. I'm going to send the boyd's back to be fixed, and then give them to my dad on his 55 bel air project. I'm hoping they will fit.

Sounds like a GREAT reason to order new wheels!! LOL

Good to hear the car is finally not fighting you anymore! I hope someone nut/bolted the thing by now! How's the power feel now and does it sound impressive? Enjoy brother!!

Yeah it's not too bad at all right now. That subframe has been fighting us though. Cut weld, slice, repair, add stuff ect. I think it's finally sorted out. The power feels great, and sounds nasty. It's just a mean, fast loud bastard. Best way to put it. Still needs a few little things, but we are very very close.

Thanks Scott for the words. It has been fun driving the car this weekend.

I was going to get a video camera today, but didn't have time. I'm taking it back to CAR for some adjustments, nothing bad, and to look it over. I beat on it some this weekend and wanted to have them look it over. The wheels should be here tomorrow, so I will bolt them up. Freeway driving was no fun because those crappy boyds are so out of wack. Incredible they left the factory so out of round. Ill get in touch with you this week for some driving.

Those wheels are going to take your car to a whole new level.. killer!

Sorting out a freshly done car is always a challenge.. all the little things are a pain. Like my speedo.. I calibrated it and now it works when the car is moving but goes crazy when the car is still.

I guess I need to isolate the wire.. just one more "little project".. and then there's that squeek from the front drive system.. lol

Can't wait to see pics of your car with the new rollers

Hey Steve. I can't wait either. I'm hoping I find tires this week for them. I have small issues myself, but nothing too bad. I'm going to take my car back on Wed and have the rest sorted out. Should not take too long, but I want to mount the wheels this week. Yeah, Steve had the same problem, you build and rebuild and you will have sorting out time, it's expected. These wheels are pretty sharp, too bad I cannot take a picture to save my life.

Great to see you too! The car does sound pretty awesome at wot... and i only really got on it for a second, but his car definently did look like it was pulling at least a little. If you ever want to try again, let me know and maybe we can go someplace a little safer than highway 9 :D

And for the record, my car is a C5 Z06... one of the 405 hp ones. Not as fast as the C6!

Yeah I like these much better Anthony. Also the guys did a high speed run today and reported no vibrations at all. I'm stoked. Plus they got my Ferrari horn working. Now I can piss people off even more on the roads now. :unibrow:

NOW your car looks right...

Very nice and much better than the blingy billet hoops that were on there.. like I predicted, they changed the whole vibe of your car.
