they have the new ZL-1 aluminum block, been out for years. That one can accomodate a lot more cubes.

I should have said BB crate engine. I want one ready to drop in and priced less than the major builders, maybe this one will be under $10K :)

GM Performance Parts has become somewhat of a joke. The real ZL1 back in the late 60's was a true muscle engine, eventhough it had 12.5-1 compression (fuel was available at the corner gas station then, wish it was today), it produced over 600hp. Well GM wants to "celebrate" the 50th anniversary of the big block and do a ZL1 427 with 480hp and less then 500lbs of torque. (oooooohhhhh wwwoooooowww that's scary, read about this on halloween). Heck how long did it take GMPP to do a 600+hp crate engine.... Well lets just say almost 600cid and call it a 572 like no one had ever done that before. Well GMPP's now ZL1 will probably burn a quart of oil every 100 miles like their 454HO and 502HO.

I am sorry this is not right and a joke to the Legandary big block "RAT" as we have come to call it. My buddies and I back in the mid 80's could get 550hp on pump gas with a 427 with the greatest of ease. Heck my 327 did 480+ with effort back in 87.

Sorry for the rant, but I will never ever buy a crate engine from GMPP. Some may dis-agree but how could the General do such a disrespectful tribute to a legend and give it the power of a decently built small block....

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Chevrolet big block, GM Performance Parts has brought back a modern version of the ZL1 for your chance to relive muscle car history. The Anniversary Edition 427 starts with a retooled version of the ZL1 aluminum block using the exact same tooling that helped create this legend in 1969. The advantage of the aluminum block is that it offers the completed engine the weight of a small block with a whole lot more power.

With a full list of features, this modern ZL1 is one of the most exclusive big block crate engines ever offered by GM Performance Parts. Fittingly, only 427 will ever be produced, and then the ZL1 tooling will be retired forever. The 427 lucky owners of this commemorative monster can expect an estimated 480 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque. :rolleyes:

The 427 copies of the Anniversary 427 go on sale in the first quarter of 2008 through GM dealers and authorized GM Performance Parts retailers. Each copy also comes with a complementing Anniversary Owners Kit that includes a certificate of authenticity, an engine plate with specifications, and other items.

hell stock pontiac 455's make the same if not more torque then that.
the ram air IV most likley is just a powerful in the HP department.

My bet is that it will cost way more than 10K, and if i were in the market for a low deck all alu, BBC i would give shafiroff a call and order this: http://www.ultrastreet.net/582_classic.asp with the aluminum block option... 14K, 582 cui, 745Hp and for 15.8K the stats read:825 HP @ 6300 and 720 lbs/ft Torque @ 4800 RPM...
