My in-laws gave me some cash for some air tools for my birthday. I want to get a good spray gun so I can spray some primer and paint on the car. I have a smaller air compressor that can keep up with a paint gun, but I want something that doesn't tax it too much.

I found an HVLP gun that I really like, but there is also a siphon feed one that is pretty nice there, too.

Which one do you guys think I should go with? I'm pretty new to using an HVLP gun, but I used a siphon feed a while back on my truck.

I want to buy them in the next few days, what do you guys think would be the best option?

gravity feed hvlp and any gun you could get cheaper tips for, use a 1.6 to 1.8 for urethane primer and a 1.3 or 1.4 for sealer, base and clear

If I went with siphon feed, does that mean I need to tape EVERYTHING off in the shop when I spray anything? I know siphon feed is notorious for overspray.

my bad, i meant gravity feed, get a ecent gun but make sure it comes with multiple tips or the tips are cheap, i use sata and iwata but i have multiple guns, but the high end tips are from 75 to 150, for 150-200 you can get a decent gun to do the job

Gotcha, I was wondering your logic, it seems most people are all about the HVLP.

Especially with spraying a red car, I don't want to waste any expensive paint!

Just tint the sealer the color of the car or close to it. Also hit up your local paint store, they might let you "borrow" a good clear gun to use.

I bought one of these, it seems like good value for the money with the 4 tips. I've only used it for epoxy and high build 2K primer so far but with good results.

good point most reps have demo guns, try to get a sata or iwata to borrow.

I personaly only use SATA, But I know over the years there alot more out there for a cheaper price. 3M came out with a set of guns I used when I was in Florida last July, I was very impressed. If your going to SEMA look for the SATA booth and talk to Mike Polinisia. He's got great prices and great service.

I would advise in getting a seprate gun for primer with a 1.6,1.8 or 2.0 tip.(depends on how thick your primer is, etc..) I Like to use HVLP guns and its all I can use here in california.
Now for the paint gun, I would advise in either Sata, 3M, devilbiss, or Iwata

Get a HVLP gun they work great and waste less product.

SataJet3000hvlp for a paint gun. Sata RP for a clear gun, and any $100 paint gun will be ok for primer. Sata guns are expensive but IMO The best. I've used everything else and still I go back to them.
