View Full Version : Help me pick a color and wheel combo

camcojb

I'm waffling between a silver or slightly darker color vs a medium to med/dark silver-charcoal. I am pretty sure the 10 spoke wheels will come in the future, but for now will stick with the 5 spoke old school look until I save up enough for the new wheels/tires.

These are my newest renderings from Carter Hickman. I have two each in silver and a darker color, and each color has both sets of wheels. Which do you like? Or do they all suck??!!!

I want to add that working with Carter has been awesome. I am constantly asking for changes and he just keeps on delivering.

I've always been a silver fan, plus I like the contrast of the silver with the charcoal wheels... I voted #1.

I went with #3 but, #1 was my second choice.
I'm just tired of seeing those played out TT2 wheels on every other car & truck.

you would say that, it was your idea!

I was between 1 and 3 as well but I preferred the contrast of 1. I usually like the wheels to be either high contrast or an exact match for the color. If they are only slightly different sometimes they may look like they are just a bad color match. I really like that dark gray though, maybe satin black wheels would look better, I dunno.

Jody, what happened to the parchment color/sleeper look? Not that I don't like this but that was a really unique look for the car. I probably missed a discussion about this somewhere.

you know, you're not the first to ask that. The car has to be re-painted so if I'm going to make a color change now is the time. Initially this was my first choice for a color combo, the silver/gray. I have carbon fiber valve covers and cf accents in the interior so I thought it would blend well. Then I decided an old school look was cool, plus I've never sprayed a solid color before so I painted it the VW beige color. After painting/color sanding/buffing I wasn't as thrilled with the color as I thought I would be, then the re-paint issue came up so it made me re-consider my original choices.

It's not set in stone, I can still keep the beige. Maybe I should have added that option to the poll! :willy:

The 5 spokes fit the body style so nice, #4. Just look at the back wheels it explodes at you. Darker color on the exterior, looks nicer in direct sun and low light. That car is gonna look awesome, good luck with your choice- Rich

I saw this thread and said "wow, someone drug up a 2 year old thread about your Camaro". Then to my suprise i click on it and :willy: :willy: :willy: . I vote you show a pic of it painted now. I think either wheel would look great with the tan, but if the choice is silver or charcoal, I pick silver with darker wheels or charcoal with satin centers. How about two-tone??????

no, the local automall doesn't have Subaru there, and I haven't been able to find one sitting anywhere. I looked on the internet but you need to see it in person.

My best friend is begging me NOT to go the 10 spoke, he likes #4 best of those listed but likes this best of all:

I like both 1 & 3, but voted for #1 just due to the wheel color. Ideally, I would have voted for #2 if the wheel centers were charcoal/darker. The old school wheels just look so nice on that particular car (coming from a modern wheel guy). :)

# 1 I agree with Ben. The contrast between the silver and dark wheels looks badass. I like the Torq Thrust wheels, but not on such a high end car.

You didn't compromise anywhere else on the car, don't cheap out on the wheels. BTW, I not only spend my own money well, but other people's too.

with red calipers? will look sweet imo

Definitely 1 or 3 with a slight preference for 3. The 5 spokes just don't look right for me on the car- maybe its the body style. Although I do like the five spoke in the rendering by Carter Hickman. Maybe it's the color.

Jody, I made my vote. I dig on #3

Just so everyone knows the 4 images that Jody posted are renderings. Its a new style that we are testing, kinda photorealism? I will post more of this style soon.

Killer car by the way, Jody.

Looking forward to the SEMA party.

I gave up on the old school look when I changed colors. I like #3 and #4. It'll likely be finished as #4 and then get the wheels later on, hopefully before Power Tour. Then I can have two looks and change them up when I'm bored! :wow:

Jody, since you posted this rendering, I've gotta say, I agree with your buddy (Don I presume?)... For me, I really feel like "silvers and grays" have just been "done to death" in recent years. I REALLY like the parchment color (how often do you see that?) and the large D spokes. I like how the tinted windows really "pop" on that thing as opposed to a big mass of gray, and show the roofline...Overall it has a really "crisp" look and feel to it, whereas the grays just are just "subdued" to the point of being...well, boring. I'm also not big on spoked, road / modular look wheels on the early chevelles...Just my $.02, it will surely be a beauty no matter what you choose to do! - Rob

How about a modern looking 5 spoke such as the Boze Stinger in a satin center it looks like charcoal.

Lexus IS coupe medium grey is killer color. Maybe nickel plate the trim.

Car would be killer even in the tan but will appeal to smaller crowd. Then again it is yours.

Flash68
10-12-2007, 11:48 PM
I agree with Rob on the silver thing being overdone (to a point... it still is a great color) but the really dark gray/gunmetal/charcoal/whatever you want to call it looks killer and sinister in the dark, yet subdued in the sun - that's what I love about those really dark grays.

I vote #3. I think the modern-looking 10 spokes fit the car with that uber-modern motor under the hood!

#3, Jody !!! :D

Did Don get the LS motor in his 69 yet? Sell it yet?

Steve Chryssos
10-13-2007, 05:55 AM
Number 3 all the way. And do something with that grille. You might find that the 45 year old "tin" grille is subconsciously adding to your indecision.
The following grille style on number 3 would seal the deal since it complements both the modern wheels AND your intercooler. Just make an insert. Leave the grille's perimeter alone. Should be an easy experiment for Carter Hickman to perform.

Great work Carter.

How could you pick anything other than #4 wow paint to match those great traditional 5 spokes that look good on everything,
but dont know the theme to your car ether is it modern engine or hot rod .

silver with 5 spoke Vintage wheels 17.72%
dark silver/charcoal with 10 spokes 30.38%
