It is very rare to find a 1972 Monte Carlo, fully documented, still holding her original engine in the engine bay. One thing that makes sense is that this highly original car was orginally green, and that is a good thing. Aside from the color change repaint and high flow exhaust, this car is essentially an untouched original that has been well maintained and garage kept. An examination of the truck, wheel lips, floor pans and rocker panels tell the story of an essentially rust free existence. That makes sense, being sold new in Bellflower, California and lived in North Hollywood until 1985.
This car is a very good example of what a good driver should be. All the equipment works, right down to the radio. She tracks with your hands off the wheel and stays there under normal braking.
The driving experience isn't exhilarating, not that an original motor that his never been rebuilt should be. More to the point, she doesn't smoke or burn oil and she shifts smoothly.
Before her coat was changed to lipstick red, she began as a very straight, rust free car needing minimal body work before the reshoot. I was hard pressed to find any overspray or masking marks. She has a factory style orange peel to the finish. A good cut and buff can make her mirror smooth. Panel fit is very good as well. This 1972 Monte Carlo is proof positive that you don't have to take a car all the way down to get a decent paint job.
She is also very well documented. She actually has a buildsheet from the Van Nuys plant where she was built, registration paperwork for nearly every year from 1972 to 1985.
The possibilities this car holds is enless. Clean and detail the engine bay and you have a respectable cruiser that you can lift the hood on while at the drive-in. Take the small-block Chevy motor out and drop in a big block. Save a ton of money usually spent on mechanical remediation or avoiding undetected body woes. Turn the key and go drive, this LA Woman is ready to go.
