just found this forum.... loads of great information that i wish i had found sooner. im a fabricator by trade... and i paint harleys on the side. i have a few projects in various stages. my "current baby" is a full tube chassis 34 ford truck... 4 wheel independent, sbc/gearbox, 18'' Z06 wheels/g-force's hangin out in the wind... cab and doors are steel, will have alum bedsides and hood, carbonfiber 32 shell. its a hybrid between a race car and a street rod... or as the "new" tem seems to be "race rod". still in construction... just became a roller.... waiting on the fed-ex man to deliver my steering parts. hopefully have the fab work wrapped up in a few weeks so it can be painted and start final assembly. try to post pics soon
other projects are 65 mustang coupe on its 3rd go around.... 416" windsor/5speed... getting updated suspension front and rear. also have a cobra kit car in the "parts collecting" stage viper suspension, will be full round tube chassis, hopefully be a forced induction 4 cam 4.6/6speed but it will still look like a cobra is supposed to look with the excetion of big wheels.
well like i said... i wish i found this site sooner... but im here now... and im sure i will spend the next few days reading through the forums.

these pics are from a couple weeks ago before the front suspension was finished(notice the cups for mock-up :D ) the main rails are 2x3 .120, the cage is 1 5/8 .134(still needs door bars... but those will be last on the fab list) the rear is jag, the front is a combination of f-body spindles, mustangII rack, 1 3/8 dom fabricated arms, avo coilovers, wheels are 18x9.5 black powdercoat Z06 wheels with 285/30/18 g-force KD. this will be running a 358'' sbc, afr heads, solid roller, carbed for now. as of now it has an M21... but i will probably swap to a tremec before its done. this is gonna be primer black... bare alum bedsides and hood, bare carbonfiber shell. but all the chassis is gonna be painted/powdercoated and detailed. this is gonna be the definition of anti-bling & anti-streetrod. its gonna get driven and raced... if you look close... you can see the reciever for a trailer hitch... after all its gonna be a shop truck :D

I am currently eye ball deep in the Roarvette, but you have read my mind with your 34.
I was planning a hi tech, rat rod. Channeled like crazy late model corvette engine, trans and rear, big open tires, roll cage primer all Black Black Black, with a goal of having everything black, with maybe some charcoal gray to lighten things up. Underneath perfect with the best components, outside, who cares. Would probably paint it with a broom, just to make the point.
Then go out looking for some Porsche Turbos to kill.
I know some people won't "get it" with your project. I GET IT!!! COOL.

i would love to use late model vette drivetrain...but there in lies the problem. i am another poor white boy.... all the money i have goes to pay for rent, food, and tools...... i try to keep some set aside for when those good deals come along.... but for the most part im a poor broke bastard with lots of cool toys.
the best part about it... since i cant afford to pay somebody to do the work... i have to do it all myself.... about the only thing that gets farmed out are engine machining and the occational part that need machining. other than that... its all me.

Good for you, I also do all my own work, except I paid some guys in striped suits to stamp out my license plate.
Keep us posted, I'll take ingenuity over money any day.

I like it..a lot :) Did you build your front control arms yourself? I was wondering about the coil over angle, what angle are they at? Anything over 75deg from vertical and the shock & spring efficiency drops off quickly, looks like you have them at more towards 50-60 deg.

as of right now... the coilovers arent mounted at the top.... as im still playing with the settings... camber curve... bumpsteer trying to get the sweet spot in the travel. once i know exactly where its gonna sit i will figure out the mounting angle....and yeah... its gonna be kinda drastic... but if it is a problem... it can always be changed.
yes i built the control arms.... all the geometry was figured out on paper, ploting away from the givens and trying to come up with the best compromise to make it fit. according to "the book" its supposed to work out great... but i wont know till i drive it.
thanks for all the compliments.... i really wanna make it driveable before the end of summer.... but we all know how plans change... things come up... etc so unless somebody wants to sponsor it for a sema vehicle... im really not in a big rush to get it done

What about a type of push rod-pull rod setup of the springs have too be mounted at a steep angle?? If done right it would look really cool. Maybe even as far as horizontally mounted?? Awesome project!! Check ur pm's :_paranoid

cant, dont have room. i really couldnt set the motor back... as there is very little leg room in it, the hood will be about 4 inches longer than stock now... i knew that evetually this would be forced inducted so i have made intercooler mounting provisions allready, so between the intercooler, radiator, i.c. plumbing, etc... there is no room left for any type of cantalever set up. i agree it looks kewl.... very high-tech... like the quadra-duece. i just dont have the spare room for it.
