Ford overdrive tranny's

I need a little help, my sister bought a 67 Ford Fairlane, she wants a overdrive in it, I'm chevy guy and don't know crap about Ford stuff other than put chevy in it, anyway need a good overdrive tranny to go behind a mild built 390 bbf.

You can do no wrong with a Lentech transmission when it comes to Fords. And their website does a very good job of explaining the differences. A 4R70W is basically an upgraded, later model AODE. Both are electronic. The TV Cable alternative is the AOD.

I'm not fond of TV cables. Once you go electronic, you never want to go back. The computer lets you setup the transmission for your exact application and tune it for your exact driving requirements.

aod aode and the 4r70w are all good ones but the aod and aode stock are slush boxes you gotta build them up a little to get it reliable. i found a adapter for the aod/aode on a fe here http://www.ford-aod.com/ i havent found a crossmember that bolts in youll have to make one but heres a little help on that http://www.mustangandfords.com/howto/30358_efi_stroker_lantech_aod/

It's gonna cost you some bucs to add an AOD and do it right so it will last. You may want to stick with the set up you have now.

I went the Lentech route that makes a beefed up AOD to handle the torque of the 390 and comes with an FE bellhousing to mate up to the 390. You are looking at $3k+. If you go the adaptor route, you still need to find an AOD and have it built to handle the torque. That still may cost you $2k+ combined.

to me a overdrive is well worth if you want to drive the car on there interstates alot. i love the aode in my 68 mustang
