Well, Mickey Thompson finally got the size rear tires I have been asking for (29x15x20) in the new SR Radials produced so I got them from them and then went ahead and made some new one-off wheels for the car. This set up not only looks much better, not really so pro-street anymore, but also lets the car work better as I was able to readjust the coilover setup on the rear and change the stance of the car.
I am now running 20x12 in the rear and 18x7 in the front with Mickey Thompson SR radials front and rear.

Looks good. I prefer a smaller wheel in the rear like a 19", but your car is amazing. I am looking at doing a 66 vette in the next year or so. Also Tell me some info about your 1 pc door glass. I have vent windows. I missed the show that your car was built on.

Tim- Thanks. Car is very fun to drive but I have been to busy to enjoy or always choose to drive something else I guess. Only have had it out twice in the last year so she only has about 100 miles on her. I just took it to Hot August Nights in Reno though and drove all over Reno and had a blast.

Trayb- We custom built the door glass after removing the side vent windows. Boyd and I agreed it just cleaned the side up a bit. Only thing is you have to leave a small little area like where you would mount a mirror as the shape of the door would not allow glass that full size to roll down. But if you look at almost all cars with one piece glass they have that piece where the mirror goes just for that same reason. Be glad you didn't see the shows as they showed little of the 3 years of build and fabrication that went into this car!!
If you ever need parts for your car email/pm me I have some good sources.

Frank- Yes, they are very similar to the ones you and dad were talking about.

Need me to come out and shoot some new pics for ya? :D

The new tires/wheels really changes the look of the car.

Steve- Any time you are in this area and you need some practice shooting pics of cars you call me and you can shoot mine anytime. I could use some good ones of it now. The ones I have that you did before are terrific but I think the car looks a lot better now. This is how it was supposed to be but M/T was just behind on getting the tires.

Race-Rodz- I will find some pics from Reno with the "other" car included also!! We had a great time and the 57 looked great!

The new wheels look great. Doesn't have as much of the Pro-Street look anymore. (although I did really like it)

Got a shot from the rear? :unibrow:

Mike- Michelin doesn't make a tire with any sizing like the M/T. The rears are 29 inches tall by about 15 wide for a 20 inch rim. They ride really nice and have pretty good grip. I know a couple guys running them and they all seem to really like them.

Really love the total package deal on this car - low, mean - with the power to back it all up. Excellent vision !

PS, REALLY wish they would have covered the buildup more in depth so that we could truly enjoy the amount of work it takes to do something like this - instead of all the shop drama....

Garage Dog- Thanks. I too wish they would have shown more of the thousands of hours of fabrication and building of the car rather then the made up drama and bs. The work, fabrication and design that was done was done incredible though. You can see some other pictures that Steve1968LS2 took at http://www.popularhotrodding.com/features/0706phr_1963_twin_turbo_vette/index.html and the article from Popular Hot Rodding. These pics are with the old wheels and tires though!

Car looks alot better Shaun!! Not that it looked bad before, though! Question - what is the overall width on these? Are they a true 15"? We talked awhile back Shaun and I was looking for something around a 12-13" wide tire. I'm currently running a 305/45 but would like something a little wider.

Thanks-
Brent

Brent- They are 14.7 sidewall to sidewall with an overall diameter of 29".

Rybar- This is the closet thing I have to a rear shot of the car right now with the new wheels and tires. It gives you the general idea. You can see the tread width.

Race- I think they are H rated which is like 130 mph. That rating is for sustained speed of course. For street use they are more then fine. Not made for track use. The guys at M/T told me it costs a ton more to get up to a Z rating in the testing world and they didnt think it would be important on a tire of these sizes. Something like that.

mlomaka
09-05-2007, 09:47 AM
I used to work many years at at tire store, so I can tell you that an "H" rating is up to 130 mph. "V" would be up to 149 and "Z" starts at 150 at just goes up. As twin stated, that is for sustained driving, and really affects the handling of a tire. The rating is the speed at witch the tire starts to change shape (not fall apart). So yes, Plenty good for street use.

Great looking car. Nice wheels and stance.

I checked out the pictures and they look great. The front looks really sharp all blended in. So where are the headlights?

TwinSting
09-05-2007, 04:42 PM
mlomaka- The headlights are removable. I have lights that attach to tabs built into the back of the bumpers near where they curve down in the middle. They hook on with one bolt and then the wiring is hidden inside the bumpers and just plugs right in. It is one of those "in case you get stuck out after dark" things!! They are nice PIAA lights and I can carry them in the compartment between the rear wheel tubs.

Rob- Thanks

I knew they where out, I had a set off them, I was just wondering on this size, I would like to the same in a 18 inch, how do the 12's fit on there, after my post I looked online and seen they say a 13-15 inch wide wheel.

TwinSting
09-06-2007, 07:33 PM
Roacketman- 12's are no problem at all. They don't even make the sidewalls pull in at all. We have done it several times.

Damn I bet thats a ruckes maker. It looks good, a factory side pipe coveron that would look good to,JMO not trying be a critic.

Is that a true or real gm corvette a aftermarket body.

Yes that's a very sweet ride, still for sale? I can't swing but just wondering....

It is actually not that loud. The turbos seem to keep the sound down for the most part but it does have a nice popping on decel. :D

We started with a real 63 vette but very little still remains except for the doors, part of the cowl and few others. All the dimensions are still exact except the rear wheel well openings are slightly larger front to back.

Yes the car is still for sale.

Shaun,
Thank goodness you finally got that car straightened out with the appropriate tire/wheel combo. I was tired of hearing everyone dog your car behind your back:rolleyes:
Seriously your car is one of my favorites:hail:
Looks even better with the new shoes.
