View Full Version : Nemesis 67 Mustang sneak peak-SEMA bound
Hdesign
08-21-2007, 09:10 AM
Over the past several months I have been working with a local builder on a new styling package that is envisioned to be added to 67-68 Mustangs. Kits and parts should be available soon after the show and Serial # 00001 will be sold at Barrett Jackson as far as I know.
Currently molds are being processed for Carbon Fiber and Fiberglass at 3G Services Inc (same place that worked on Bob's G-Force Cuda) and the body will be returning within the next week for paint and the signature Nemesis interior. It will also feature one-off custom 18/19 wheels, vent window delete, bagged susp and Roush FI 427 motor. It will make it's debut at SEMA in the Nemesis Motorsports booth so we're racing against the clock like everyone else.
Anyway here's a sneak peak and a progress shot, more to come. Stay tuned......

What kind of clay is that you guys are using? I have always been interested in this kind of work. Thats making me with I would have held on to one of the many 67/68 fastbacks I had years ago.:(

Good point...I suppose all of the Elanors broke the ice when it came to hanging a " body kit" on 67/68 Mustang fastbacks...it seems weird to envision a 1gen with one.

Mike, the clay is typical modeling clay, not sure of the brand.

:_paranoid Depends on how this kit sells.
Kevin, that was the biggest challenge with this car. It had to look well integrated, not like someone just hung a bunch of stuff on it. Hopefully, we achieved that.
I like it, Ben. It has an OEM look to it.

I give up
Ben you are very creative, I like the brow/eye logo that is awesome too.
Just some input for the builder of the kit he might want to offer a "round" headlight version too.
If it's economical and what not
I was never a fan of that split headlight look. I think I first saw it on that orange prototype race mustang.
Hdesign
08-24-2007, 07:37 AM
The intent will be that this is the prototype vehicle showcasing everything that will be available immediately (and there's more to come). We've always thought it makes a lot of sense that the components can come in choice of kit levels and/or a la carte. One of the challenges has been to get a part break out that makes sense for manufacturing and potential buyers. For example, as you said Al, not everyone is in love with that headlight aesthetic, the can opt not to purchase that.
The single side glass with integrated CF mirror alone will be a cool mod as well as the rear decklid/spoiler kit or the CF hood.
Of course, the builder and manufacturer will want everyone to buy everything in Carbon Fiber (and install it) but realistically the product line will potentially have greater success with the ability to personalize. We spent quite a long time trying to figure out how to achieve this look in your driveway. I mean that's why we're all modifying our cars isn't it, to be "different"?
Good eye Al! Yes, I drew a lot of inspiration from the 05 GT-R concept and 08 Shelby GT500KR concept. There are a lot of bold design cues on both that we tried to smoothly integrate into a 67-68. We all know the current Mustang is the modern interpretation of that vintage but the surfaces and details were completely different. You can't just throw the modern crispness and geometric styling on an old car, it looks "stuck on" and that's exactly the opposite of what we wanted to do.

Well you guys did a fantastic job.

Just offer a round headlight version too, if possible
Did you do any renderings showing a round version?

Tyler:
I agree with you about that. Someone needs to do one for a first gen Camaro. I saw the green one you pointed to above. I watched it for awhile hoping at least some of the parts would make it onto the market. (Especially if they had made some killer subtle parts for the '69, the stuff that would have would have seems logical on a true racing version of the car. The Corvette Grand Sport was a good example of creative Racing Flash. Even if the parts had not actually been invented in that time and had only borrowed some performance enhancements from some of the more modern race cars. You know the things you can add all of or part of to make your car a more one-of-a-kind ride, yet still keep the classic. The Mustang guys seem to have a big head start on the poor Camaro crowd):unibrow:
Anyway, I watched it for quite a while then one day it was gone!
Almost like it had been a dream.................
I looked numerous times thinking it must only be an oversight from the web master or business. But I haven't seen any of it since then.
That's too bad. It showed a lot of promise and artistic ability.
If you run across that guy or girl who was working in that direction, let them know it looked like a good idea, and a fresh approach for Camaro Aficionado's.:D
Pass this along if you get a chance.;)

Thanks for all the great comments everyone, we're moving into the next phase this week. The car that'll be used for the prototype is being shipped back to MA today and we left another 67 with 3G to start on the interior, side mirrors and engine cover components.
Mike (owner) will be working on the metal fab portion while we wait for the CF parts to be finished and shipped. The body is in OK shape, looks like someone started a resto job and didn't finish the welds. Most of the work will be focused on mini tubs, engine bay clean up and preping it for the Air Ride set up.
We're having difficulty nailing down a shop to mill the custom billet wheels so we're open to any suggestions. The source we have for some of the other billet parts just doesn't have the capability.

I just got off the phone with Mike owner of NEMESIS going over the last few things left to do before we get it for final fit and finish then paint. After that it will go back to Mike for final assembly. When we get NEMESIS in Ill post pictures as we finish her in paint for a little sneak look before SEMA.After seeing Ben's rendering:hail: I was blown away with this car and hearing only 8 weeks to get it done and working with Mike before I was all in to make it happen.

that is absolutely AWESOME!!!!! i cannot wait to see it finished. i love everything about it. all of the body mods are modern-looking but well incorporated to the classic styling, the ground effects, the split headlights, the mirrors, the spoiler... i didnt think i'd ever see a fastback 'stang that was better modernized than the Eleanor car by Foose, but i'm in love with this one. i thought i'd never prefer a mustang to my camaro but nice. i just wish i wasnt a poor college student. please tell me that doing this to a first gen camaro is next on your agenda.
well done
Mike

I was equally thrilled to hear that we would be working with Pete at Competition Specialties, "comp-spec", to finish this car. What can I say, his work speaks for itself and I'm just as eager as everyone else to see how it turns out.
Mike-Nemesis Motorsports is considering the possibility of developing a Camaro package as well in the future. If the Camaro moves forward it will be a major undertaking from a stying standpoint. There's several good reasons why gen1 Camaros are popular, styling is a major one.
Correction: If everything works out as well as we hope, a lot of people can have a "sweet looking ride." LOL
It's about time that someone came up with a different kit for the mustangs.
The eleanor kits are getting a bit long in the tooth and everyone wants one.

We have all the Air Ride set up in the car and working
Most of the body's completed from the doors back
Still working the fenders and waiting on the carbon fiber hood to show up
We'll be installing the motor ( 427 ROUSH ) 6speed and drive shaft to set up the pinion angle - Then we can build the exhaust system - run the brake and gas lines,
Hoping to have that all finished by friday.
Then it's disassmbly for paint.

I thought nobody ever posted pics prior to SEMA.
Am I wrong?
Is it gonna be sold as a body kit DIY or as a complete car kinda like Unique builds them?

Most of this information is noted throughout the thread but this is the recap:
Mike DeVincent (owner of Custom Auto Recreations/Nemesis Motorsports) builds a variety of different cars for clients. He is also very experienced "Eleanor" Mustang (Unique performance kit) builder. He contacted me to design it and stay on as a production consultant for this car and subsequent kit. He also contacted www.3gservicesinc.com to build the molds of the fiberglass/carbon fiber parts. Pete at www.competition-specialties.com (screenname: Comp-spec) is handling bodywork, paint and supporting the final assembly. It's a build-by-committee.
The prototype is to be unveiled at SEMA and the parts will be available thereafter. You can either contact Mike to build one or purchase the kit (or individual parts) to build it yourself. Many parts will be available in fiber-glass or carbon fiber. The goal was to design a kit that offers personalization to some extent. There will be different "stages" of performance and upgraded styling with a line of Nemesis colors.
Yes, many builders prefer to keep their projects quiet. However, everyone that was involved with this project felt that it was a unique opportunity to include the G-machine/Lat-g/Pro-touring community in some of the decision making. You guys have provided a lot of helpful feedback that has made the design evolve into a much stronger package.
Just to let you know, the last progress photos before SEMA will be posted in the next couple days. We can't give everything away......heh heh heh:unibrow:

They look very similar to the rendering on the first page of the thread with a few tweaks. I designed them and created the 3D database that they will be milled from. Wheel design in general has to be one of the biggest challenges on a car for so many reasons but it's really fun.

This is car is really turning out nice.
One thing that i want to comment on is the fact the owner is having all of the rendering completed before they move forward on the project.
Some people think renderings are just for high-end builds but I think they are wrong. If you have a rendering and take it to someone and say this is exactly what I want it will save you tons of time and headaches. It helps the fabricator see your vision and you both can be on the exact same page.
Great work on the Renderings Ben and keep up the incredible work.
ps- Cuddo's to the builders this is truely a remarkable build and build schedule.

So far the body kit and interior panels have cost over $100K to have designed and made. This car IS one of those high-end builds.
Although I do agree a rendering is a great place to start your project. It give direction during the build, instead of guessing as you go....

You make a great point Marty. As Pete said, this car is a high-budget car considering it is a prototype showcasing so many parts, but renderings are becoming increasingly more popular for builders and owners of every level and budget.
You look at this car and it has just under 50 components to the kit that needed to be designed that are exclusive to this package and went through a period of development beyond fabricating a single one-off part. Is everyone going to need that? Probably not, considering that even most aftermarket companies develop 1 to 10 new products to showcase at SEMA each year.
That's one end of the spectrum. The other end is the backyard builder on a more modest budget that can't afford to screw around with painting the car twice or buying 3 sets of wheels to achieve the ultimate look for his dream car. Whether he/she builds at home or outsources for work, they need a plan, a blueprint, a clear goal and source of motivation to dig into their wallet every week and spend half their paycheck or more.
Also, there is nothing more frustrating to an owner than trying to communicate ideas to others what they envision for the car. What are the expectations of the builder and owner? If there is a difference of opinion how can you visualize the compromise? Will it look like a cohesive design or will it look like an eclectic hodgepodge of 2 sets of ideas that clearly don't go well together. Good designers work as a bridge of ideas that mitigate the stress of miscommunications and offer creativity and a vast knowledge of trends and the "next big thing". Beyond a pretty picture for your wall, designers are thinkers as well as artists. I have (3) 3 subject notebooks filled with ideas for projects since Jan. I have fat 3 ring binders busting at the seams with mag clippings and email printouts on projects I hope to get to someday.
The bottom line is good design is affordable and practical for everyone. Paper is a hell of a lot cheaper than metal and paint. And there are just so many great artists to choose from that offer a variety of perspectives, style and ability. You can't lose!
Sorry for the novel, I'll just keep posting photos...I promise!:D

Ben,
That "novel" should be the first page in the handbook for how to do a project of any scale. As always the Nemesis Mustang is a home run. Keep it up.
To All,
I can attest personally that the work Ben has done for us will save months of time and thousands of dollars. Or if you look at it another way, even if it doesn't save a dollar in parts or labor the project wouldn't be nearly as good because we couldn't have afforded "WHAT IF'S" that the rendering process allows. Try it, you'll like it!
cohesive, eclectic, hodgepodge, vast, mitigate
Man... good thing I married an english teacher... I had to call her over so I could understand what you were saying.:D
On a more serious note, I try to encourage all my clients to do so for the exact reasons you mention Ben. Regardless if its a $20k car or $200k car ultimately the builder and or designer needs to display his ideas or visions in a real hands on visual to the one paying the bills.
PS... she gives you an 'A+' for your advanced use of vocabulary.

Thank you for saying exactly what i meant. Can i use your words in my build book for Syborg because i don't think i could have said it any better.
ps - I can give one example on my truck. My vision of the firewall and my fabricators vision didn't seem to get communicated very well and we ended up doing two firewalls. ( the first one didn't count )

Here are a few photos to wet your appetite. I took many more photos from SEMA, but I will try to get them posted to a different thread later.
I hope I never miss another SEMA show again.
The bonus is that it takes place on Halloween (in VEGAS!).:lateral:

This is the real car after SEMA and the rendering before.
What do you think?
I think the front wheel is turned a little more in the rendering than the real life pic
You guys did an amazing job turning Bens concept into reality !
It was great seeing this car in person !
Great job guys !
