After I got the sub-frame media blasted I spent a few weeks of WAY late nights stitch welding the frame halfs together, A/C compressor notch finished, cleaned up factory welds, body worked, and painted. On the bottom of the car I cleaned up all the welds from the mods I did, body worked it a bit and got it into paint...this was after I stripped it all to bare metal by hand, I'll never do that again!

I then installed the frame and welded it to the DSE SFC's. Then finished mounting the last of the parts on the fire wall, hung the sheet metal and loaded it on a trailer just in time to take it to Chris (race rodz) for the Aug. 11drop off dead line. Drove 600 miles yeasterday, but I know it's in good hands! It was a ton of work for me to do in a few weeks, I'm tired and am looking forward to spending the rest of the summer with my family and hitting a few camp grounds. It's all up to you now Chris!!

not quite as fast as the project your workin on, but should be pretty respectable turn around time.

i keep seeing all the horror stories of peoples cars stuck in the paint shop for many months and even years.... and i just dont get it. there will be a lot of updates on the progress so everyone can see how long a job like this "should" take.

i will officially start workin on the car monday morning, should have updates every couple days.
cool, can't wait to see the progress. you doin the full shanty on it? skim coat, poly, urethane? good luck

You might think about putting some undercoating in the wheel wells and other parts. I know after having such a nice undercarriage the thought of undercoating probably makes you grim. I did the same thing and am definetly going to undercoat the wheel wells as I know the paint will just get chipped and plus it makes nasty tinny noises when driving through gravel or anything loose in the road.

Subframe looks killer! Whose rack and pinion kit did you use?

awr68
08-12-2007, 08:42 PM
It's a Unisteer power rack.

Pretty sure it's going C6 LeMans Blue. Carter is just about finished with the renderings and I'm loving how it's looking!

Congrats to you!

The IC will work great. I got pretty far on the tubing mockup, ran out of parts and time and had to get into paint mode, so I'll finish it when the car returns. But as far as packaging goes it's done and looks good.

Jake I'm coming up with 19U as a GM paint code and 6232 from PPG for LeMans Blue....as far as I know they only put this on the C6 and some C5's.

I googled ''C6 LeMans Blue paint code'' and found some sites with the code...it's the current blue they put on the C6 Z06. Here's one site, scroll to the bottom under '05.

http://www.southerncarparts.com/info_pages.php?pages_id=13

Here's another site, again scroll down a bit.

Chris will have it a few more weeks or so.
I plan on driving it next summer. That's if I can stretch the budget the distance! I'd love to debut it at the GG show in Washington next July...we'll see! :)

not much of an update...just thought it was a kewl pic, how often do you get a reflection on 100gt DA'ed bare metal:D been using a new "deep metal cleaner" from basf, its amazing how much "crap" is still left after washing it down with normal wax/grease remover.

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/277/tony68006jb7.jpg

tomorrow the car will be DP90, then the "fun" starts

Does that "deep metal cleaner" also prevent rust?

Looks great Chris, I knew you could do it...you got mad skilz!!

Guys, I went down last weekend a spent the day with Chris and my car and I have to say he is doing a great job and I couldn't be happier! He has done a ton of work in less than two months. The front end was a huge setback time wise but as he mentioned, we aren't as concerned about a deadline on this project as the fit and finish. He is doing a great job and the car will see paint soon!!

Yeah, I'm damn excited these days!!

i ended up taking the project "up" a few notches from what tony wanted, which should be very apparent when its painted... hopefully he isnt affraid to drive the snot out of it.

Yeah, you can say the car is WAY nicer then I ever dreamed it would be! Thanks!! Oh and don't you worry, it's still going to get driven hard!! :unibrow:

Guys, these pics are fun, but in no way show how f-ing straight the car is! Chris metal worked the hell out of this thing for the last 3 months and got the gaps and panel fitment spot on! He is truely a craftsman and has a real passion for making things 'right'...I'm very lucky he wanted to do my car!!

Yeah well it might only be one work day, but it will be the longest one of your life. Of course you know you'll get stuck in the worst traffic jam in the history of the automobile on your way home. Then just after you clear those jam packed lanes of rubber necker's you'll get a flat. It will of course rain the entire time your changing the tire only to mysteriously stop as soon as your finished. You'll arrive at home tired and soaked to the bone but still excited to see your car.

Let's just hope Chris has better luck with the traffic than you do. :D

atleast tony knows where he is goin.... i dont even have directions, west end of PDX...... im sure i will find it:_paranoid

Sounds like your getting the usual set of directions. Just wing it and if you don't find his place by 6ish, just leave it in a parking lot and tell him where to pick it up. lol

Thanks for the spy photos! That thing is looking Bad A$$! Are you putting the rear bumper on it or is Anthony?

To bad those are the last of the lot. It's been a lot of fun torturing Anthony. Hey, what are friends for.

Yeah waiting sooo many years to get to this point has made it real special! I have had other cars painted before but this time was differant. Chris was great to work with, I'm very happy I chose him to do the work! Cant really say enough good things about him and his work ethics!

I started a new threadd with the homecoming pics!!
