I know I've seen the write up on How the A/C compressor problem was solved on Camaro X on this website. I searched and searched and couldn't find it. Can somebody please post a link.

I have a 69 Camaro and I'm putting a F body LS1 in it using ATS mounts. Needless to say there isn't any room for the A/C compressor......... I have a Sanden compresser from the Vintage Air Gen IV sytem I'm trying to make fit in the factory F body location. I don't want to run it up on the top. At sometime I want to turbocharge the car and it'll be in the way on the top. It has to go on the bottom. Notching the frame for me isn't a big deal to me.

What are my options.........

ATS has a solution for it.

The last time I talked to Tyler he did not have a solution.

I think the best bet is to make your own mount and use a ATI balancer with a pulley bolted to the front. This would be almost like the white camaro Steilow built.

Vintage air is working on a set up to allow a SD-7 compressor versus the 508 model . It wont be out for quite awhile.

I think Jan is referring to the ATS Sidewinder accessory drive but this places the Sanden compressor up top on the passenger's side. It does tuck all the accessories in very tight though.

Street & Performance has a low bracket for the a/c that will work but you will need to use some of the other brackets as well. You will also have to notch a small portion out of the subframe. The S&P bracket runs the compressor off of the front pulley, so you only have one belt. I had it on a stock subframe, but have since gone to a 21st century.

Vintage air now offers a compressor and bracket to mount a compression in the stock f body location. They use a Sanden 508 compressor with rear exiting lines and the there own custom made brackets The maximum dimension from crank center line to the out side of the compressor is 13-1/4. I talked to them and it is available the brackets cost $100 and the compressor is $200.

We just had a big discussion of the VA LS1 bracket and rear exit compressor on LS1tech.com. The issue is that the rear exit lines hit the engine mounts.

I have those brackets from V/A and they don't work in a Camaro subframe without massive cutting.

Maybe Tyler can check in later, but I think they had a solution before. It required a new balancer were the pulley is moved to the front so that the compressor gets clear of the frame. And as I undertand it is not part of the serpentine system they have. It might also require another routing of the lower radiator hose

Unfortunately these mounts don't work in the first gen Camaro. They put the compressor outlets directly under the frame stand portion of the motor mount.

Like Don (DHutton) mentioned we had quite a discussion on the the LS1tech site about this.

I talked to ATI this morning and I'm waiting on a bolt on 4 rib pulley to add to the front of my factory balancer. We'll see if it's going to work when it gets here in a few days..............

I didn’t know there was motor mount interference I plan to use this bracket on my car but I run a totally different style motor mount. Could this work on a stock camaro frame if you re worked the motor mount.

Here is how I did my motor mount

Your motor mount is certainly smaller than a factory one. I don't know the hoses might sneak by the mount. I don't think you're going to have frame clearance with the side of the compressor though. It's really hard to tell from just the one picture. I posted a picture of the two compressors side by side in the LS1tech thread if you want to take a look at the comparison. Towards the bottom of the first page http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=765005

Where's the routing of the number 2 header tube going? I'm pretty sure it's not going between the mount and the compressor. Like I said above it's really hard to tell from just one picture and one angle.

I talked with Tyler a couple of months ago. The only solution he offered was the Sidewinder setup.

That is stock f body compressor mounted on there in the picture. And it clears but barely my frame is only 30 inches wide in side the rails. I don’t have a picture with the #2 header tube in the car but I can tell you that I am able to get to the big bolt on the motor mount with a socket on a ratchet with know extensions. I looked a the ls1tech tread I think I will be ok with my set up

Here is the final lay out of the header out of the car.
