why not a aod so you can have a overdrive gear. are you gonna use h4 headlights and l.e.d. tailights

I will go with H4 headlights
Don't really like LED tail lights on classics

I have had a full comp C4 in my last 4 stangs and it works well for my driving . I have no plans of taking long road trips in the car.

Removed the dash pad and cut off all of the pad hardware then welded all holes shut so dash can be smoothed and painted car color.

POR15 sealed the entire cowl area then welded the louvered area shut and smoothed.

Quarters removed and everything sealed with POR15 prior to replacement.
New inner and outer wheel houses spread 3" and welded.

New trunk sides welded in. Fuel cell arrived today so on to mounting it next.

I am the grunt on this project. This metal work is WAY over my head. My good friend Mat Wright at BRC Racecrafts is doing the handy work. He is an incredibly talented person and I am lucky to know him. :hail: When the chassis and metal work are complete I will take the car home and prep for paint,wiring, plumbing etc. I hope to have it completely assembled before winter so I can take it back apart and it can go to the painter then I can get to chrome and powdercoat while it is gone. So I guess it is a 1/2 to 1/3 garage build. ;)

very nice:thumbsup: ...details on the motor please, specifically the cam, heads and intake. Are those JBA shorties? 1 5/8 or 1 3/4"? I assume you will post more pics of the mini-tub job as it progresses. Some people with early Mustangs like me may be interested in the complete details of the mini-tub job...it looks like you narrowed the rear frame rails in a manner similar to the way it is done on 1gen Camaros.

The new factory wheel houses are widened and tacked in place. The factory lip on the top of the wheel house remains and they fit tight. The rear valance will be welded and smoothed to the quarter panels so everything behind is treated with POR 15.
Next is the fuel cell and finish the trunk floor.

What a great job. This gives me alot of inspiration, only problem is that it is too early. Need to finish my Fastback before I start working on the conv.

When you got the wheel houses´widened, was there then any problems with you conv. top?

Yes, the top rests on the top of the wheel houses in the down position. There are flat areas on the original tubs with felt pads glued to them. After everything is welded we will cut that area out and put a flat piece in the top/front of the wheel house. I think the factory used a sledge hammer on them from the looks of things. We will try to be a little more refined about it :cool:

I am sure the money will run out way before the ideas stop :yes: The exterior of the car will be very close to stock other than the cowl hood. The interior will be white pony with the addition of a center console.

Mocked up the convertible top to see how much the new wheel tubs would need to me modified for the top to lower all the way.

Cut the necessary ammount out of the wheel houses and fabricated a new top for them that matched the angle of the top when lowered

The new piece looks much better than the factory "sledge hammer" job that was on the car originally.
